Hola
I am having a problem with DVLA regarding my C1/D1 categories because I have peripheral neuropathy in my feet. I was hoping that I could drive our motorhome (5250kg) with a hand control adaption. Last month a saw an English chap in a tag axle Kontiki and he was wheelchair bound. His chair was a fancy piece of kit and the habitation door had been widened and fitted with a lift. The drivers seat was removed and his wheelchair became the drivers seat. For the weight of the Kontiki he must have C1. It's a pity I did not get chance to speak to him.
Is anyone aware of a converter that can install hand controls on a Fiat based motorhome?

Thanks.

Local mobility agency or Age Concern should be able to supply a fitter. I have in the back of my mind that you have to pass a new test using any adaptations
News to me about a new test.

Mind I no longer drive but drove using hand controls to supplement the brake for a year. An additional test was never mentioned and my driving licence was scanned and sent to the DVLA.

Nope… as long as you passed your test you can drive anything that’s been adapted..

I’ve had hand controls fitted to every vehicle I’ve had (automatics) a push to brake and pull to accelerate system that’s so easy to get used to..
where are you based ? If you google “disabled hand controls” I’m sure a fitter will be around your area in the uk..
I go to a place in south molton Devon as I’ve been going there for decades and they make them to my vehicle so fit better… at the moment I think the system I have is £500 -600 to have made and fitted..

Maybe Des Gosling (Derbyshire) as they do custom controls. It's a bit of a trek for you though.

coachbuilt in Nuneaton offer much more than driving and access equipment aids. They will completely gut the interior, fit person hoists, rails, wet rooms etc if thats required.

Madame has hand controls in her car, she has a throttle ring on the steering wheel that is wired to the ECU, the brake is just a lever and a rod to the brake pedal, simple, effective and about 6 grand...... because UK law is probably different, here the installation must be Tüv approved and logged on the registration docs, its a liabilty issue.

We did speak with our converter, luckliy he is in the next village, it is possible electronically with the Ducato but not cost effective right now.

A floor mounted system is not so easy ( I have a spare from my CLK that we cant use) if you have swivelling seats, it has to be dash or steering wheel mounted.
