I did have the bottom one on the old van for a while in the hope that it would help Sue operate the handbrake more easily. She is quite short. I found that sometimes it was hard to release. Pulling it up just pulled it on harder. When it did release easily it was good but just sometimes it was an issue.

Hi,I have had both and although they both work well the Kobra does tend to catch you when exiting the drivers seat and if you are like me somewhat clumsy can end up with it up the leg of your shorts :Eeek: the rarespares type is a nice bit of kit and has the advantage of folding down when engaged ,this is handy if you want to swivel the seat and imho a far better design .

New to motorhomes, had a camper van before this.
We have the RareSpares one. The trick when releasing it is not to pull up, but rather push the lever gently backwards

The rarespares used to get caught in my shorts too. I'm pleased to know I'm not the only clumsy one ☺

Just check you are happy with the function of the Rare Spares item. It is a fly brake... ie once lever pulled back slightly the brake will come off if you dont hold the lever up... no ratchet on the way down. I had one on for almost 5 minutes before realising it was not for me and the wife although that was/is personal choice and I am sure you learn the proper safe technique easily enough. Wife drives van only occasionally and would not get time to get used to it with such short driving time so we decided not to keep it. To be fair I too wasnt overly comfortable with it either

Do you need to advise your insurance? Could it be classed as a modification to the braking system?

Rare spares extender for us now on its third motorhome, so easy to use , rather that lean over and search for original brake lever.... yes can get caught in shorts, and you can pull the pin and drop handle on site (y)

many many years! since I was a kid
I use the rare-spares one and find it very easy to use. I am 6ft4 with a partially fused spine after an accident, so can't bend easy to reach the original. The only issue is to be careful how it is adjusted. They call these suicide brake levers for a reason. Any slight impact on them instantly releases the brakes. Something my son-in-law found out when he was cleaning the roof and the sheepskin on the back of the drivers seat fell down and landed on the lever. He ended up going for a ride down the driveway, across the road and up my opposite neighbours drive, shunting his car into the garage door. Thankfully no damage or injury resulted. I now chock the wheels when I park on the drive
