I've been looking for this photo for ages, and I just found it on a backup disk. This was taken on the SS63 from Ancona travelling to the other side of Italy. Anyone else been there? Any other hairy hairpins?

Not too hairy but got stuck here trying to get out of Banassola in Italy - dry day but inside wheel spinning on hot tarmac. Encouraged by a healthy crowd of local Italians I eventually got going again in a cloud of tyre and clutch smoke, only to get stuck again further up the hill..

Promised myself i would do the Stelvio on my bike, not got around to it yet.
A little tip on the stelvio, and I’m not teaching granny to suck eggs but so many riders do not do this and can end up a cropper, BUT always swing your head round and look past the exit to the bend, as there are coaches and vans coming against you and the camber is wicked and your legs might not be long enough to hold you up if you stop! Two mates tipped their Harley’s over like this, if the exit isn’t clear stop on the straight bit till it is👍
Have a safe ride on the stelvio, but the Großglockner is a far better road on the bikes😉👍

Here is the Grossglockner film

It runs for over an hour and was filmed from a open top Tesla.
It's doable in a motorhome, but you need to start early and there is a €40 toll !

WESTY66 is right. The bottom of Stelvio is great fun on a bike, fairly quick and flowing bends. Once you reach half way, all right handers are like switch backs. They catch many bikers every year. You get a sense of achievement but not a particularly nice ride.
In hindsight, a K1300s was probably the wrong bike. A KTM 990 supermoto would be the kiddie.
As for the Gross Glockner, Awesome. Much faster, free flowing and longer. Great cafe at the top too.

Picos de Europa has some stunning roads. This summer I was at Posada De Valdeon, and put San Vicente de la Barqera into Google maps, and it said 33kms but 3 hours and it was in the motorhome, would have been a lot faster on a good m/c ie not a Harley but still not impressive as average speeds go.

Also love Grosglockner ❤ would love to do it on my Guzzi as long as I could lie down afterwards:xrofl:

Done it in a motorhome (and a dozen times on bikes) it does warm the brakes up on the way down t’other side!! We stayed on an aire (€10) at dollach on t’other side, in the grounds of some restaurant or other👍

Can't watch that, the sound of the car is totally drowned out by somebody drying their hair.

When you mentioned doing it by bike I thought you were talking about a push bike! DOH!

There is a closed road day on the first saturday of September for cyclist and we thought we would have a crack at it but the Saturday had 6 inches of snow so it cancelled! We managed to do it on the Monday - it was the top or bust! As you can see we were quite pleased with ourselves!

I took this photo from the drivers seat as we started down the 21 hairpins of L'Alpe D'Huez.

Forgot to mention i was on the back of a lowloader. The first couple of bends scared the crap out of me!

I did Stelvio a few years back on an 1800 Gold wing, 2 up with luggage, I have no inclination to do it again! Footpegs took a hammering

You wanna try it on a lowered glide!!
Worn out boards and chamfered boots😉🤣🤣🤣🤣
Like Jackd says it’s an achievement but I wouldn’t say it’s really enjoyable, just different. One of the best roads I’ve done is the Villacherstrasse, not long but very flowing😉👍👍
