The UK government is currently consulting on potential changes to certain driving test requirements and whether or not to alter or remove them.

The consultation is mainly focussed on HGV and bus driving tests, currently anyone who passed their car driving test after 1997 is required to pass B+E car trailer test to tow certain combinations of vehicle and trailer.

It asks several questions relating to the validity of such driving tests and the nature of accidents associated with the activity and a proposal to remove the need for such a requirement forms part of the consultation.

The consultation closes on 7 September 2021 and full details, including evidence and other links, can be found here.

It's a race to the bottom yet again.
Not aimed at road safety, auto matic gearbox test giving manual authority.
C test giving D authority, no test on passenger care, perhaps ratchet strap them in for safety!
Car trailer over 750 kg authority on car test pass, cars, driving manner and test changes since 1997 are quite different.
Address the real issue, drivers wages and conditions not reduce entry standards, or manipulate public perception of doing something.
