thinking gas low single cylinder 6kg set up any form and against comments greatly appreciated

Sounds good, I started out with one Gaslow bottle and a calor as backup, after a year or two added a second refillable.

I have a single 6kg gaslow bottle and find it fine, went to Portugal for 6 week this year with no problem, the only thing I will fit next year is a method of reading accurately the quantity of gas left in the bottle....... Gasit bluetooth etc.

We have single Gaslow bottle set up, we fill up in the UK. Last year we were in Europe for 6 weeks and this year we were in Europe for 8 weeks and only used just over half the bottle on both trips. We have a compressor fridge so I guess if you have a three way you will need to fill up on your trip. This is a good app if you need to find a filling station...........https://www.mylpg.eu/stations/

For the small extra cost if you can fit an 11kg one then go for that as you'll nearly double your gas capacity.

If you use sites and the electric supplied thereon, then a gas cylinder can last a long time, if, however, like use you wild camp and use aires etc without hook-up then you might get through a fair bit depending on what time of year you go, whether you like showers every day, and if you have a gas fridge.

Out camper has an all-electric fridge so we only use the gas for cooking and heating so our twin 11kg set-up lasts ages.

The reason we use Gaslow or any refillable gas system:-
Whichever European country we are in, the bottles can be refilled with gas.
As far as I am aware, this refill is cheaper by far than changing bottles.
If, as LUMPY finds, they can manage to get back home without using half a bottle of gas, then Gaslow (fittings and bottle) seems a fairly expensive system to have. However on our 5 month trip, filling up our two 11kg bottles twice in different countries, would be impractical and require us to be carrying 3 different large replaceable 11kg bottles. This would be less practical and gas more expensive in the long run.
As you may be aware, each country uses their own bottles and these are not interchangeable.
I lock off one of our two bottles until the gas runs out, then I know that I have a couple of weeks to find a gas refill point.

We find, that in warm weather we use very roughly a kg of gas a day. Thats fridge, hot water (two showers a day) and cooking. In winter a lot more of course and if ehu available a lot less.
A single 6kg bottle would need refilling often.

In reality the size of the bottle(s) you need to fit will depend upon how and when you use the motorhome. Do you want to stay for a while in one spot in winter in the the UK? Do you want to go off grid and not use EHUs? If so you will find yourself running out of gas pretty quickly and having to move more off of site to fill up. Are you willing to spend a lot of time and effort finding places that sell LPG every few days?

We use an 11kg bottle in about 10 days in winter, mainly off ehu, that's fridge, heating and water, that costs about £12 to fill. We then have a second 11kg as back up.

so would it be fair to say its not financial sense to have refillable if you don't use a lot of gas

I think if you use ehu all the time, and just use the gas for an odd but of cooking, then no probably wouldn't make sense, we probably use about 50kg a year of gas, so is worthwhile, also far more convenient, no more changing half empty cylinders just because we are going away.

How long is a piece of string? ? It's not all about finances but also about convenience too, no way would I want to be lugging around heavy gas bottles and when we go abroad for 2+ months we'd be stuffed as we couldn't carry enough to last us without being able to refill. As we do various countries getting a foreign bottle for our trip isn't an option either as each country does different ones.

Heaven forbid, but I agree with Mel. :whatthe: ::bigsmile:

Convenience is the most important point for me. I am getting too old to lug heavy gas bottles in and out of lockers. And my bottles would never last a European trip. But whatever bottle you have you still have to either fill it or exchange it somewhere. We prefer doing it when we are on the road.
