I have a Burstner Aviano I694 on a Fiat Ducato base.
A diesel leak occurs when filling the tank. It happens when the tank is full. The filler nossle at the pump doesn’t shut off and the tank leaks diesel from underneath, I’m assuming top of the tank. If it’s not completely full then no leak so it’s excess diesel. It’s not leaking from the side filler.
just wondered if anyone else has had this issue and if so what the fix was? I’m getting around the issue presently by not completing filling it.
thanks

Ours leaked when full, the filler overflow tube had become detached a relatively easy repair once I got access to the filler tube behind the filling point.
Cheers

Thanks! I will check that out. Assume you don’t have to remove the tank just get access to the filler tube?

Probably not the actual tank but the filler hose between the flap and tank, possibly misplaced or damaged.

I know someone who had exactly the same and the van stunk of diesel. They cured the problem by part ex the van fairly sharply.

since 2007, 25 years tuggin before that.
There looks to be liquid in the tank top in the picture, is it diesel or water? Also looks wet round the bottom of the white cap. Check the large rubber hose hasn't rubbed through against the cap.
How long have you had the van, could it be a warranty fix?

That’s the fuel sender containing the pump, float, fuel take off. It has a large plastic nut that can be loosened up using a stick and hammer. Underneath is a large O ring. That sometimes perishes. Around the fuel pipe take of there is a blank auxiliary line, that usually is blocked. Is there for additional line to be used as a option, like diesel heater. Sometime the auxiliary can leak. It’s difficult to pinpoint the leak without handling it. It may be from one of the pipes, since you have fuel on top of the sender.

Does it leak during filling up, or when it gets to full?

Thanks guys for all your helpful advice. It doesn’t leak during fill up, only leaks when it gets to full. Sounds like the O ring under the white plastic nut. Van is 11 years old so may have perished.

It could be. Just looking at the picture though, the white access cap looks dry around the top of the tank. In the pic below the red arrow points to what looks like a wet patch. Could be this connection that's leaking?

Hi
From the pictures it appears to be leaking on or around the tank top access unit.
Get a bundle of tissues and a plastic bag. Just keep mopping up the fuel until dry, place soiled tissues in the plastic bag.
When dry cover the entire area with talcum powder, any leaks will be quite apparent.
If it remains dry, just add more fuel into the filler while monitoring the area.
Upon completion simply wash the residue away with warm soapy water.

This is at the top of the diesel fuel tank and this photo shows the source of the diesel leak. At our recent MOT and service, the leak from this and the diesel sender was revealed and our motorhome has now been to Adams Morey in Portsmouth, the Fiat Professional service agent for repair. They have repaired similar leaks on other motorhomes and suggest that it is a possibility that it is caused by the "converter" removing the fuel tank to fit other equipment relating to the conversion. Perhaps, their non-Fiat trained mechanic damages the plastic fitting in the top of the tank, perhaps without realising and then reinstalls the tank. The leak only becomes apparent when the tank in completely filled. This is a worrying possibility.
