Hi All, I have a Pilote Explorateur G713 LG - Year 2006 the fridge freezer has started to play up and needs replacing - It currently has a Dometic RM 7605L Installed and I wanted to replace it with a Thetford N4145 - However I was told that the gas and 12V connector were in a different place so couldn't be installed - I was told this by a mobile engineer - he subsequently gave me a price to supply and fit a equilevent Dometic which was twice the price ! Has anyone else heard of this - Also has anyone got a Thetford installed within the Pilote motorhome as it seems a bit far fetched to me. Thanks in advance.

If it’s the panel that’s packed up is it worth getting it repaired, friend did that with his . Don’t know where he got the panel done.

I really cannot see that the Gas and power connection(s) would be a real source of issue to a competent person.?. Shortening or lengthening the Gas supply pipework with the correct fittings is within the skill set of any half decent gas fitter. Re-Routing 240/12V cables Likewise.

In my View, Somebody is "avin a larf" at your expense (literally).

as above, they are trying it on. Get a price elsewhere

Whilst it may cost a bit more to fit a Thetford than a straight swap for a similar Dometic fridge unless there is a major reason why the piping etc cannot be altered then you're either being told porkies by someone who can't be bothered and wants an 'easy life' for him/herself, or hasn't a clue how to do it. Go elsewhere.

You could have on the roof and a competent gas fitter could pipe it up

I've just replaced a Dometic fridge / freezer with a Thetford fridge model N3150 in my Pilote. The Thetford was much, much cheaper. Recall gas engineer said gas pipe fitting would need to be replaced as different type / size. I'd get a 2nd opinion if I were you

Watching with interest as I have a Pilote Explorateur and my Dometic fridge has packed in and will be looking for a new one if I cannot sort it. My Dometic has been a pain from the start so I am looking for an alternative.

The Dometic packed up on mains voltage and became intermittent on gas due to failure within main cooling unit, it was hit or miss if it worked in the end. If it’s a cooling unit failure your as well replacing whole fridge. Jackson leisure do a Dometic / Thetford comparison chart plus 3 year warranty as I recall. If your Devon or Cornwall I can recommend an engineer.

I could be wrong but have you considered replacing the workings of your Dometic.

I couldn’t get the part, Dometic weren’t much help as Fridge discontinued so we bit the bullet. Good luck if you can get a replacement cooling unit but you may be shocked at the price. Make sure you get the fault correctly diagnosed before you act.

May be the fitter did not want to do what you want and just said that. Nobody tells the truth, the driver had a puncture so you will not get your delivery today. People say these things because they think it’s easier. You can not make people do things. As said ask someone else.

Hi Gregors. Trophychap here OP stands for Original Poster, previous post saying West Byfleet was made by Sedge my other-half! I have no idea where she got that from. I must tell her to log in herself and stop making posts in my name.

Hi Trophychap - Cool thanks for letting me know - I was hoping for a minute there was another engineer right under my nose ! have a good day :)
