Completed the drain-down of the fresh water tanks and Truma heater/hot water boiler for the first time and decided to close up the drain valve on the tank after a couple of days. At first I opened it up a bit more and a drop more water could be heard splashing out and then I turned the knob to close it and it just kept on turning without coming to a stop like a tap would. Is this normal and when I next refill will the water pressure create a seal or have I broken something?
The MH is a 2016 Dethleffs Advantage and the tanks are under the Passenger seats.
Any reassurance would be appreciated.

Without knowing your van, one possibility is that it acts like an in-line isolation valve in a water pipe, i.e. it can be continuously rotated in either direction but at two points 180 degrees apart it is fully closed and at the opposing two points it is fully open. Usually the handle on such taps indicates their position, handle in-line with the pipe or outlet equals open, at 90 degrees equals closed.

Try turning it 90 degrees from fully open and refill the tank. Whether it then leaks or not will answer your question!

Our hymer has a knob on top of fresh tank, connected to dump valve at base of tank. The valve can be fully open to drain, set in a 20 litre? Ish position so tank is mostly empty or fully closed for full tank.
If I am right it rotates 2 full turns, . Not used it since feb so memory a bit ............
Pictogram on handwheel knob re the 2 turns.

Is it similar to this??

If it is the same as my Trend open the inspection port, put your hand in and guide the threaded stopper back into the drain hole. Then push down as you turn the valve clockwise. It should come to a stop after several rotations of the valve handle.

That sounds the same as the setup on our Dethleffs. The handwheel definetely stops rotating when the valve is shut.

Thanks everyone so far, Stubroo seems to have it, the photos from SandraL are interesting - I will have to get the inspection hatch unscrewed, I did have a half hearted attempt before - slightly more than hand tight methinks!

Hello Broken Link Removed, thanks for the comment, where does the E clip fit? on the inside of the tank or the outside?

Cheers

I've got the Hymer B680 and my drain down valves are in the space below the wardrobe floor, you undo them a little way (anti clock) then to shut them off a slight downward pressure and twist clockwise, the downward pressure is important, failing that you just keep twisting, it will not shut the valve off, hope this helps

Stubroo is right. I too have a Dethleffs Trend and exactly the same problem happened. The solution was to take off the large round red screw-in inspection cap and guide the “plug” end back into the hole with one hand as you screw it up With the other - its not difficult.

For future reference, don’t unwind the tap as much as they say (mine says 2 full turns). I have reduced that to just less than the 2 turns and its never happened again.
