Fishing Fishing within and hour of Liverpool or Heysham port

Hi, we live on the Isle of Man and wish to make regular fishing trips to the mainland.
We have done a few trips but due to ferry times we lose valuable fishing time by travelling two or 3 hours across country. Can anyone recommend a decent lake complex within an hour or less from either Port of Heysham or Liverpool. Not looking for a Specimen carp venue, more mixed pleasure fishing. We are booked to go to Eye Kettleby in April which is highly recommended but still a good couple of hours drive.
