We will be travelling from Calais down the west side of France in September. Looking for suggestions for a site 3-4 hours drive. Must be dog friendly.

Tardinghen on the farm. Safe, quiet, 20mins from Calais. Guaranteed a spot. Honesty box or farmer collects. Electric available. Water/dump. Good walks on country lanes and some pitches with sea view.
I’ve tried all of the rest and this is my go to if travelling in that direction.

Our usual stops are the aires in Chartres, Marboue, Chateaudun. They are all adjacent to open areas for dog walking etc.
The aire in Chateaudun by the canoe station is is now permanently closed , no longer exists , it is now all car parking , water and bourne removed. Also the municipal is now operated by CPC .

We use the aire at Neufchatel-en-Bray - it's only 2 hrs from Calais but has all the services required and is a short walk from a supermarket if you need provisions. There is an old railway line adjacent to the aire that you can walk your dog on all the way into to the town centre (about 30 mins with our dogs, significantly less if yours don't sniff at everything en route).
Also a very good vets in town if needed.

We sometimes use this free aire with services, there's a via verdi and plenty of tracks nearby to walk the dogs. Supermarkets and fuel in Neufchatel en Bray, where there is a campsite (dogs allowed for a charge) and paid aire, close enough to Rouen to get around in between rush hour and lunch time.

We usually spend first night at Aire de Baie de Somme
There’s a nice free stop very close to Chateaudun at Saint Denis les Ponts on the river we use regularly

We booked the ferry yesterday for next Thursday landing at Calais early evening so may give Auchan Boulogne a try for first time. Where in the car park(s) is it best to overnight.

For future reference, if travelling down the West side of France, the Newhaven / Dieppe ferry is generally the cheapest crossing option and also saves 100 miles from Calais.

Unfortunately though, dogs have to be left in the MH for the crossing ☹️

We gave up on the Dover crossings about four years ago, always use Newhaven now. It always looked a lot bigger distance from our house looking at the map, but I was really surprised when I put it in the satnav only one mile further, and we save on the Dartford crossing and Canterbury P&R. Plus 20% discount 😁

When we booked the Dover/Calais crossing yesterday for next week with Irish Ferries they were £115, P&O £136, Eurotunnel £212. Newhaven/Dieppe £193 (with discount) and gets in later and wife not happy with later arrival.

Searchforsites is your answer, drive until you have had enough. Stick in a search and drive to the nearest location never more than 10 miles from somewhere.

We just paid £205 return July to Sep from Newhaven. Irish Ferries wanted £241 for the same times with the added hassle of Dover and Calais which you don't get at Newhaven.
