I don't understand what happens if you mark threads read? But have seen people asking so it must be used by some

Thereafter if you choose unread posts in the filter bar (click logo/set filter bar to unread) you'll only be shown the ones you haven't seen, the other 3.3 million will have disappeared

but if someone adds to a thread you have marked read, would you not then miss that reply?
