I was experiencing problems with hot starting with my Fiat Ducato van. Cold starting was not an issue but after running the van for about 30 minutes, and then stopping the engine for a while, getting the van started was not easy. It required constant cranking of the starter with accelerator to get the engine to fire and keep running.
Problem was solved when the van battery died and did not have enough grunt to turn the van over. A new battery fixed this issue and my hot starting problems. It could be the new battery had more oomph or it could have been new connection, especially the earth strap, onto the battery. All good now, hopefully forever!

Interesting, I have this exact same problem and my starter battery is 6 years old and did get very low last year over winter when I forgot to plug it in.
I already changed cam sensor and crank sensor and fiat prof thought it was the injectors!
Now I need to figure out what replacement battery I need...
