Hi there,

I own a Fiat Ducato 1.9TD motorhome from the year 2000. Nice and good MH, but problems when starting after a night of rest (or longer). It takes Some time to crank and when it does start, there’s a big cloud of white smoke for a few seconds. Otherwise it drives fine. Also when the engine is warm it cranks immediately.

Are they working though? Are they getting the power that they require?

Other thoughts are the diesel running back to the tank, so initial cranking is having to prime the system and get fuel through to the injectors. This can happen with small air leak on one of the diesel pipes.

Just a quick question.

Who changed the Glow-plugs ?

Did you do it yourself, or did you employ a third party.

I only ask, because I owned such a vehicle, and when the same symptoms, arose the same treatment was prescribed.

BUT, . . . .

Despite their best efforts the garage that I employed could only change 3 of the plugs. The fourth plug remained obstinately in place.

They tried heating it, freezing it, and soaking it in penetrating oil, to no avail.

The very nice mechanic chap asked if I was prepared to suffer the plug shearing off, and subsequently facing the removal and repair costs.

I just managed with three new plugs, and one that was not working efficiently.

I was subsequently informed that immovable glow-plugs were a common fault on Ducatos/Boxers of this era.

Dunno how true that was.

If a third party carried out the work, are you sure that they did the job properly ?
