I’d like posts please from members who have a similar vehicle to mine so I can gauge usage similarities

When the moho was new last March 1st it did approx 1240/1250 miles between fills and the warning light coming on

Now after driving at 62mph - 1500rpm on motorways, and 50mph - 1500rpm on other D/N roads with roundabouts and what have it’s doing 630/640 miles between fills, so same usage despite different road conditions

With top up i’m using approx 7/8 ltrs so i’m thinking something is clearly amiss

I consider myself to be a very careful driver so no heavy foot down at all and as much on cruise as possible

So can anyone please compare your vehicle and lmk what your adblue usage is driving a similar vehicle at a similar style

thanks

Al

I believe the slower you go & more carefukl you are the greater amount of adblue is needed to prevent the dpf clogging. Run it at 2500rpm for 30minutes in a lower gear on the motorway & it should clear it.
Adblue is not suitable for Mobil economy run drivers:LOL:

I didn’t know that tbh so I wonder if that is correct, I don’t suppose you have a link to any info so I can do a bit of reading up

thanks for replying though it’s appreciated

I have the 160bhp 9speed auto, and get 3000 miles from full to warning coming up.

Is that on a 3500kg panel van? It’ll be totally different to a 5000kg tag axle.

I have a 5000kg tag axle with a 180bhp 9-speed auto and after a 1000 mile round trip, it took just over 7 litres to fill it up (it was full before we left home). The journey was mostly on the motorway from Shropshire to Aachen (Germany) and back.

thanks for that info, is that on a Fiat or a different make and are you able to tell me how much adblue it takes to fill up again please

thanks Al 👍

Also, I think the light will come on when it estimates the vehicle will do about 1000 miles to empty. It seems to not be related to volume of Adblue left in the tank, but the range that is left (estimated). So, if it takes 1000 miles to use 7 litres, I’d expect the light to come on when there’s about 7 litres left in the tank.

Not done enough miles in mine as yet to know for sure.

that’s great info thank you, what speeds approx were you doing?

i’m concerned that when brand new it did 1240 ish miles and needed about 7/8ltrs to refill and now does about half distance for the same adblue amount 🤔

I’ve found this

Whatever engine or weight, if the DPF doesn’t get up to temp, because you are driving carefully on a Motorway or just doing short trips, you WILL use more Adblue. As Gus-Lopez hinted you need to give your engine a 20 min thrash in 3rd or 4 gear to get the system hit enough to burn the coke out do this and you will use less Adblue.

Doesn’t the Adblue deal with the nitrous oxide emissions and not the particulates?

Found this on Ford’s website:

AdBlue® is a colourless, non-toxic liquid that is a solution of water and urea. It works to convert nitrogen oxide emissions in the exhaust gas of diesel engines, into nitrogen and water. A particulate filter then further reduces solid particulates from the vehicle's exhaust emissions.

Thanks Dave and Gus

it seems that’s what I’ll have to do to see if it clears anything

I’m thinking, but possibly wrong, that a lot of motorhomers will have similar issues then as I personally pass quite a few motorhomes on motorway when going 62mph

That said, and this has happened twice on different occasions, 2 Swift motorhomes have shot past me and I mean possibly 75mph at least 😱

Not a direct comparison but my works Transit is working hard every day and uses about 11 litres every 4500 miles. Others in the fleet that are always in traffic and not getting any real load use twice as much.
It’s looking like then the treating it with care is probably not the best thing to be doing 🤔

In all honestly, I have always driven my vehicles with a bit of enthusiasm from new (but not thrash them) and find that they never use oil or smoke when idling for a while.

I’m like that with cars tbh but not with my motorhome’s, maybe it’s a fuel consumption thing, but one things for sure using all this adblue seriously negates any savings in diesel

I am a little more reserved with the motorhome too but find that it’s only high cruising speeds that really affect the fuel consumption.

The OPs van is an auto

Just get the adblue deleted in the ECU and save your engine the trauma if thrashing it's wotsits off every few hundred miles. You'll soon offset the extra emissions from the additional fuel used to keep the dpf cleaner and transporting all the urea around the globe but you'll have one less thing to worry about on each trip.

I filled up just before Benidorm Al and drove all the way home and light has not came on yet approx 1450 miles I will plug my multiecuscan in and find out how much is left and let you know 4600 ton 180bhp 9 speed

I would at the drop of a hat but don't want to void my 5yr warranty but after that 👍🏻

I think that’s what I wanted to hear, I know it’s difficult to get a like for like driving pattern but it’s close enough for me

I’m having to go from Kent to Dorset, awning issue, after easter so hoping to get a chance to force a regen to see if that changes anything

And i’m with you regards a delete due to also having the Fiat Assist 5 years warranty, I certainly don’t want to jeopardise that in anyway at all 😉

I would in a flash but it would cancel my 5 year warranty

With regards to carrying it round the globe, your right their as i’ve 2 x 10ltrs of the bloody bleeding horrible stuff with me 😡

I reckon i’ve put 40/45ltrs in this trip

This is what I have left in the tank Al after the journey home.

bloody hell Dave

am I right thinking that you have used approx. 7.3ltrs and done 1250 miles, if so i’d have doubled that usage

Also are you using to get these reading may I ask
Yeah 1450 miles and used 40% it seems to be getting better with the mileage now at 16000.
The reading is taken with Multiecuscan 👍🏻
