Yesterday I had 4 Continental VancoCamper tyres fitted to the van. They are the only tyres I really trust.
I asked for the rear ones to be inflated to 5.25 bar (76.1psi) which is the pressure I have used for many years, but the garage owner was reluctant as there was a 69psi max moulded into the tyre wall.
So yesterday mid afternoon I sent an enquiry through the Continental UK website giving details of the static axle loadings and asking what pressures they would suggest.
a Tony Marklew responded the same afternoon and asked for confirmation that the axle weights were real (ie from a weighbridge). In the evening I confirmed that they were and just after 0900 this morning he responded with recommended pressures, an explanation of how they were derived and a chart from the technical manual. The rear pressure recommendation was, indeed, 5.25 bar. So I immediately asked about the 69psi on the sidewall and received an almost immediate response explaining that the 69psi marking was for the US market and did not apply to Europe.
Obviously the pound as well as the inch are different in the US!!
I thought the speed of response and the level of information provided was exceptional and deserved a mention on this forum.
