Hoping to buy soon!
Hello. I am a massive newbie looking buy my first motorhome. It would be for my family - wife two daughters 19 & 17. It's a decision between the two above. The Euro Mobil is £23k, the Carioca £19k. Both around 50k miles. Plans to trip round Europe in coming months and years... Carioca has damp coming from roof above door (which is being fixed), Eura Mobil slight damp in corners of garages. Both RHD. Eura Mobil has electric pack. Other than the wraparound lounge in the Eura Mobil (and the £4k price difference) there's not much between them. Which would you recommend....?

Hi and welcome..

layout , layout , layout.. then Payload, payload , payload...

layout and payload are the 2 most important points, especially with a family. so which layout will suit your needs best and which has the capacity to carry you all and the all the toys you want!

personally i had a CI Carioca new in 2008 for 3 years, liked the look of it and it had a heavy chassis so good payload but it had build quality problems and damp around the habitation door and locker doors. no amount of work or seals including a new hab door and frame under warranty could stop it. was pleased to get rid after 3 years.

They dropped the CI brand and its now Roller Team and i believe they have improved quite a bit since we had ours

Thank you Phil. Yes it's the roof above the hab door which is the issue. The Carioca has just a dinette (I believe it's called) whereas the Eura Mobil a big front wraparound lounge....so yes layout!

what is the max weight of each and if its over 3500kgs do you have a C1 on your license?

if they are 3500kgs max, with basically 4 adults and all your stuff i think you would be short on payload capacity.

The German Euromobile will be much better constructed than the Italian Carioca. Personally I would steer clear of anything with damp, but if the garage damp in the Euromobil is due to poor door seals it's not so bad.
With 4 adults you are going to need at least a payload of a 1000 kg preferably more.

I do have C1 being a gentleman of more mature years. Great point about the payload - I had absolutely no idea about that - thank you. I will certainly check that out before making any decision. Garage damp is right in the bottom corners - where it's coming from remains to be seen...thank you again

Payload might not be such an issue, my older teenagers 18 and 20 both now refuse to go in our motorhome (especially my 18 year old daughter). It/we are just not cool any longer. It's just been my wife and I on the any trips recently (and it's been great 😜). Maybe ask them up front?

Hi and and welcome 😀
like many will point out payload is a key point, as is layout?, One thing we learnt! ( only after buying our hymer 2003 MH) luckily it worked out ok for us, could of been a very expensive mistake, interior seatbelts for grandkids also was a must for us  bathroom also, with toilet, (if able to?) Check how much room you want to move around in there, if you have dinette? Ask for them to show you it set out as a bed! Can you or your family lie comfortable on it? Some are smaller than others? Good luck, research is key

Deffo check the Carioca 656 weight. We had a 2007 and even upgraded to 3700kg we could still only get the 2 of us in legally.

I have the Euramobil 636LS from 2005. My first proper Motor Home. I’ve had it twelve years, with very few problems. The Mercedes base has had absolutely no problems, except the air conditioning which has been repaired five times, hoping this time .........

The layout is perfect, with the pull down bed making such good use of the bridge area. The dining/living room can become another double bed when required and the sofa will make up to an extra long single. There are four belted traveling seats and I’ve had nine inside for supper after one show, when everyone was tired and hungry in heavy rain; the pizzas kept popping out of the oven until the rain stopped and we got on with the show take down.

I’ve had various improvements made. The best for me, as I’m often on uneven grass, is the EP self levelling and semi air plus added front coil springs; all from Mick at SAP. The underslung LPG tank from Autogas2000 and two individual switched solar panels to collect power while I’m wild camping even under trees.
I’m working on increasing the payload at the moment, from 3.8 to 4.2 as I’m maxed out with my Sixteenth Century pole lathe, tools, tent and wool/linen clothes and leather shoes.
