Well travelled
We've just entered Germany and looks like we need a sticker for the windscreen.
Looked at our V5, and nothing on it about emmisions or Euro rating for engine. Any ideas how we get this then prove it to get the sticker ? Our engine is Euro 4.

Google a TÜV station close to you, then pop in on Monday morning with your V5 and for €7 you’ll have an umwelt plakette

Euro 4 is the minimum, I believe, for the Green Umweltplakette required in many German towns and cities.

Its not a problem unless you're goi g into major city centres.

Unlike the London LEZ where Number Plate Recognition cameras check who enters, you actually have to be stopped by an official in order to be "done".

I have a Euro3 engine and TUV told me that life is only worth living if you live a little dangerously. So far I have transited 3 German cities without any problem (but always a little trepidation)..

It's funny that France and Germany have these sticker systems.

Each country has a database of vehicles and each vehicle had a giant number plate on the front and back - I wonder if that's a clue? Then ANPR on each day to divert/accept each vehicle from a city on any given day based on pollution levels and emissions?

I suppose we have to remember that these same organisations / countries were the ones that encouraged every man + dog to buy particle spewing diesels (in the face of the advice at the time that this was dangerous) in the first place. Sigh.

So the French can look up our number plates for speed checks but not for emissions - I wonder what these people have been doing? Actually I know what they've been doing - they'd been making up stickers and creating their own little niche bureaucracies LOL.

I wonder if we should all join a big organisation with a parliament and everything so this type of obvious stuff can get sorted out?

Due to a road closure we went through an umweltz city Center zone in July. I will have to take it on the chin if I get fined, however opinion amongst fellow motorhome owners in Germany was that it is unlikely we will receive a fine. Time will tell.

€6 from www.berlin.de. It's been the same price since the inception of the scheme. Don't fall for these unofficial 'premium' sites.

Got diverted by road works into one of these in Germany, that was beginning of August not had a fine yet!

Not just big cities, many towns too. For 6€ it was a no brainier for peace of mind. Came quickly from Berlin.de website.

After checking the advise here on fun I got mine from the Berlin.de site at €6. Came in a week.
As others have said for a few euros not worth the hassle so may as well get one.
I don't have any plans to be in a big city BUT something did occur to me. Imagine you have an issue with your vehicle and need to get to visit a main dealer. Bet they are all inside the zones...

We got one from the official website a couple of years ago as we were staying at a campsite in Cologne. It was only 6€ and took less than a week. The nice Autoglass man even managed to transfer it to our new windscreen in July unlike the French one which is just perforated paper.
Still waiting for my speeding fine from Germany , I was definitely flashed in June near the Elbe ferry heading towards our Norwegian adventure. My carelessness. Slowing down but not quickly enough. It was heading into a town so I am definitely guilty, not one of those “ varies on size of vehicle”. I am surprised it’s taking this long thinking of German efficiency!

Send the fine to the manufacturer to pay?. They are up to their armpits in the same Trough .

We laminated both our french and German ones then sellotaped them to the windscreen just in case we need to replace the windscreen.

And if Jonny Foreigner did not pay his dues to enter the LEZ or say cross the Dartford Crossing we would all be up in arms but it seems its OK for us not to comply with their laws?

As others said €6 is not a lot and saves worrying....

Same here , done Duisberg, Dortmund and somewhere else randomly , and never had anything, for those that prefer to cover all eventualities, get a ticket .

I would happily pay €6 for the sticker BUT Euro3 engines no longer qualify!

I sat at TUV Lingen for 90mins while the guy tried all sorts of techniques to get one for me, going through every piece of paper which I had and making phone calls to other colleagues. Eventually he advised me to just chance it and live a little dangerously.

That is not what I'm happy with, so we took the long way round Osnabruck and avoided visiting a friend in Munster. However, on our more recent trip we wandered into Aachen (because there were no advanced warning signs), as was the case with Freiburg. I accept that this is exacerbated by our penchant for using minor roads, so we successfully negotiated Mainz and Hannover when we were on the motorway.

I now have Umwelt Zones highlighted on my AutoRoute 2010 route-planner but I wish TomTom would release the information for my satnav.

We bought ours from the local council offices in Baden Baden.

Reviving an old thread. We want to go to the stellplatz at Aachen but it's just inside the low emmision zone.
Got a 2004 2.8jtd so I don't think we'll be able to get green sticker.
If we can't can anyone recommend a stellplatz near Aachen outside the green zone.

Our Garmin does warn you If the route takes you into a zone. All set up in the settings somewhere.Did so in Munich ealier in the year.

Check for 'Green Zones' on line, there's a very good app showing exactly where the zones are.

Happy to report five months on, no fine received.
