Electric step issue

Step on van extends OK but has started to not retract fully unless I give it a push. Starts retracting OK but stops when about 80% retracted.

Thule step but can't see anything on web about this issue.

My slide out Thule step is unreliable - if a bit of grit or gravel gets in then it upsets it until it is removed. Always retracts but sometimes have to give it a yank when it doesn’t extend completely
 
There is a micro switch under a cover on the front side. Dirt can build up and make it trigger early so it thinks the step is fully in. Available on the internet, it is the same as on a domestic fridge door light if you cannot source a Thule one.
Glad to see you have mudflaps, essential with these steps if fitted behind the rear wheel. Mine did not that is why I know about the dirt. Also worth tightening the screws at the front and rear if the treads to help prevent twisting. It is a crap design as the actuator only works on the front support arms relying on torsional rigidity to move the rear arms.
