Don't buy Chinese.
All the lower range and many of the mid range ones use the cheapest parts they can source, many of which are non standard parts.

A good mate of mine runs a bike shop, they turn away most electric bikes for anything above a routine service or punctures and cables as they can't repair them at all.
Many are only good for 1,000 miles or so, after which all you can do is take the bike to the local tip.

You are better off spending a bit more and buying a German bike (2nd hand?) as you will get a better bike and it will be fixable.
Look for motors made by companies you have heard of such as Bosch and Sony and manufactures with a real history.

We've got a pair of Bromptons, I'm fairly bike fit, so mine is 'manual'. She's "not a natural cyclist", so hers is electric and it means we can quite happily ride together. We were at a campsite just outside Great Malvern at the weekend. Rode the 5 miles each way to town. She didn't even notice that it was a 100m climb on the way there!

We got them when we had a 5.4m PVC. They'd both slot under the bed, so no security issues from leaving them outside on the rack. With our new 6m motorhome, we've not got a garage, only a couple of external lockers. Again, Bromptons squeeze in. There's nothing that folds as small, and yet they ride better than pretty much every other folder.

I am taking a fold-up bike and cover/helmet to Holbeach Bring & Buy at the end of month so anyone seriously interest can try it.

It cost just under a £1000, I'm looking for £500.

I bought it at Warners Norwich Show, just before Lockdown. It has rear wheel motor, lights, mudgaurds, rear rack etc and has start away switch, so no need to pedal to get you started off at traffic lights etc.

IF I can find photo's I will attach later?

If you are still working look at the cycle to work scheme that will save you money!

We’ve also got Wispers, they’re fine. But I wouldnt describe them as light.

And are you sure you need folding? We got folding (806SE) but they generally go in the van not folded, and it must add a bit to the weight.

Just a tad..
I can highly recommend the MiRider bikes. These are above your budget but definitely worth it.

We have a pair of MiRider bikes. They are very good.

However, I am a little annoyed that several of the bikes fixings are now rust tarnished. Sure I have used them in the wet and near the ocean, but always kept in the MH garage every night. The majority of the bikes fixings are fine, just half a dozen of the same parts on each bike which are rusty now. I’m a little frustrated and will reach out to the manufacturer today.

If you don’t need folding, don’t get folding. Folding = heavier. Folding = not as good.
You can get very good lightweight folding bikes e.g the GoCycle at 17.6kg including battery but they are expensive.

I wondered if anyone had bought from decathlon I'm thinking of looking at getting one there as I think they're likely to offer some aftersales cover if needed

Agreed. Folding frames are heavier, have more frame flex (worse steering, pedal effort is wasted), more complicated and compromises the geometry (less comfortable, less stable). There are good folders, but they are a premium. Don't get a folder unless you need the space.

I am also considering a folding ebike.
I know some people will say to avoid bikes made in China but the Fiido D4s gets good reviews and is reasonable lightweight at 18.5kg.
From £635 plus delivery it is very good value.
The main problem is that I have never actually seen one so it is difficult to judge quality etc.

Yes I looked at the Fiido D4 but not sure If you can trust reveiws these days. Nothing like speaking to an owner for a true picture.

Hi. I purchased 2 e shoppers folding bikes from Tesco, they are 19kilo each, I assume they were made in China, odd parts have been no problem. We have had them over eight years without any problems. I paid £850 for the 2.
