Hello,

I'd like some info about the Yuasa L36-EFB batteries.

So, I'm in the middle of some solar upgrades and decided to get these batteries to replace the old Halfords lead acids, and I wondered what the charging rate should be. All I could find on the data sheet was a charge rate of 7A (amps I presume).. Alpha Batteries does have Ideal Charge Voltage at 14.4v and Top Up Charge Voltage 13.6v so that's what I'm going with, or at least I was.

There was a Ctek guy on Youtube talking about the 'MXS 10' and different battery types, so I asked him in the comments what settings to use for EFB, he replied-

Hi, Yes you can charge all types of lead acid batteries with the MXS 10. EFBs as well. Use NORMAL or AGM it will work fine with both settings. What differs is the time it will take to fully charge, it will take some few minutes longer with the NORMAL setting, Best regards CTEK Support

So 'Normal or AGM'.. 14.7v for a short time is too high, isn't it?

If appears to be a standard flooded cell so 14.4v charge voltage and 13.6 to 13.8v float should be OK..

That's what I thought, I think I'll play it safe. I'll go trawl through the Ctek stuff though to find out if it's a one off. (y)

I asked Yuasa the same question today and this is their reply, the information also applies to their standard non EFB leisure batteries.

Good Afternoon Chris,

Thank you for your enquiry.

General charging recommendations for EFB leisure batteries are 14.4V ± 0.2V on bulk/fast charge, and 13.6V ± 0.2V on float/standby charge, both quoted at 25°C. Current input should be limited to label capacity for general recharging.

Kind regards,
