As far as I know the only system named 'e-toll' is in Poland and is GPS-based rather than toll booths. It applies to many major roads not just M/Ways.

We have one, being resident in Poland.

We got Bip and Go, earlier this year, and used it in France and Italy, works very well. It is also set up for Spain and Portugal

We have just set up Mango. (APRR) . It is set up to work in Spain, Portugal, France and Italy. Not used it yet but will be in Spain and Portugal in Sept/Oct.

These links will enable you to estimate costs and you can buy the appropriate country toll units through the included links.

Height is not usually a problem, its the weight they care about, over 3.5 and the rates change and then a box is required and not optional.

When we do France then a bank card is all we need, the booths are easy to use and Italy is a ticket system that you only pay when you leave the Autostrada, which we pay with bank card or visa card.
All quick and easy, you don't gain that much by driving straight through but its your choice, I personally hate stuff stuck on the windscreen.
Not so relevant for you UK guys but I collect all my coins from 10c to 2€ and have these in a bag in the MH, if all else fails then we chuck these in the auto coin bin at the toll booth.
