We are staying at the pepper pot campsite Dursley on the way to Porthmadog , anybody know of any nice stops
On the way , not taking us too far off the most direct route , any info would be helpful, regard Martin

You can park overnight in many carparks in South Wales, I think Hereford is one and visit cathedral and Mappa Mundy.
Ludlow is a lovely town but not sure about where to overnight.

Have changed my mind and now suggest going via Severn Bridge and Newport as the A470 is a lovely scenic road.
There is a fantastic campsite at the National Showcaves of Wales in Brecon Beacons.

Hi.
Barmouth ?......Run up the coast looking out to sea, from there, you pass through Llanbedre, if you turn left there,it takes you down to Shell Island. There are a couple of farms just over the level crossing on your right where you can park up .( No leccy yrs ago ). Harlech Castle Site with swimming pool on the bottom rd. A couple of old Slate Mines/quarries nearby, Blaunau ? festiniog ? Festiniog railway-Snowdon and the " Electric mountain. ( You can go down one old mine in a railcar.)
The icing on the cake...... Portmadog " Fish and Chip shop... Up in the corner of the car park, near the British legion club.
" Some of the Finest beaches in the WORLD "..... Enjoy.

Powys actively encourages mhs free parking overnight
But which route are you taking are you going through mid Wales or following the coast

Could I just gently point out that Hereford is not in South Wales!

Aberaeron 14 miles or so south of Aberystwyth, there's 2 campsites on the seafront less than 10 minute walk from the northern edge of the lovely town (y)

The A470 skims past Betws Y Coed (A5). Just a minor diversion - about a mile or so - and it's lovely.

New Quay - just 5 miles South of Aberaeron - is much prettier.

If you are travelling through Powys as someone above says most of their public car parks welcome overnight parking, this is one that we use occasionally just outside Brecon.

This farm site just North of Llandrindod Wells has also served us well.

Erwood Train Station Cafe is also a pleasant overnight stop.

Or further North on the way out of Newtown towards Machynlleth just after the turn off towards Caersws there is a cafe with overnight parking beside.

Or even for a lunchtime or evening meal there is the Horseshoes Inn at Berriew

You would never guess that we wander mid Wales occasionally would you? But you will find us here now!!

I’ll own up to that one, but I was looking at a google map route at the time, through Wales, then I remembered the overnighting rule in carparks, to Porthmadog, and saw Hereford on one of the routes!
