Duck tape - how many things held together in the MH?

I've raced sailing dinghies practically held together by duck tape (used to use gorilla tape but it was a bugger to remove when you wanted to do a proper repair)

Our satellite dome has been repaired with it after me having an argument with a tree.....the clear version and you can't tell it's been repaired

Being involved in theatre for many years, I can confirm gaffer (or gaffa) tape is not the same as Duck or Duct tape although they are the same width normally. The key differences are

• The adhesive on gaffer is very different leaving no residue and should not take a floor finish off. Important when re-painting a stage is a time consuming job done in your own time before the next show hits the boards and only needed because you used the wrong tape.
  
• Most gaffer is not waterproof.
• Gaffer is more heat resistant than Duck or its variants. It can be used to temporarily hold colour filters in front of luminaires without the adhesive melting and leaving a horrid mess.
  
• Gaffer goes back pre WWII and I was told by an old hand Joe (long since gone ) many years ago that it was called Gaffer because the Technical Manager kept hold of it and only issued it with instructions on where you should put it down. Joe always called it Gaffers tape and objected to the gaffer or gaffa short forms.

This is very different to LX tape which is PVC, not cloth backed and generally not as wide. It's a professional quality insulating tape loved by lighting people who were original just specialist electrician, hence the eLectriX. This is used for stage markings and many other uses. Gaffer, or indeed Duck should not be used for electrical insulation at 230v!

Unfortunately a lot of tape sold as gaffer isn't, but that's another story!

only if i end up with a figure like the two girls, but i think it'd need a bit of a miracle nowadays to achieve that, back in the day it could have been a possibility........
but if you're a miracle worker, then i'll go for it..

I hate to tell you but the chances are the black tape isn't on the skin but probably sewn onto flesh coloured fabric. I've made a few stage costumes in my time and a lot of the "flesh" is actually fabric If you look you will see where the tape covers the end of the fabric - most noticeable around the ankles. And yes, I realise you were not looking there - which is why they end the body cling suit where you don't look!

The black tape is actually self-clinging so it attaches to itself where it touches. I'd post a link but I'd probably get banned
