We are considering driving to Andorra on route back from Nothern Spain to France to find some easy hikes.
Has anyone done this and any suggestions for a scenic route. Weather is poor so may have to get up there using the motorway from Madrid but prefer not to.
Any thoughts?
We are at Cascantes now below Huesca considering going up to Ainsa today

Marked walking and mtb (Bike) routes directly from Ainsa, Aire/Car park has been popular in the past, current status not known, nice location, walk directly into village from parking.
Well worth a visit.

The C13 onto the C14 from Lleida is a good route.

Thanks for the tip.
We are at the Acsi site st Ainsa now.
The walks look good and the high medieval town is like a beautiful film set!

Prepare to be stopped at the French border so they can look for duty free goods.
I go through Andorra often, leave Andorra 8-9am never been stopped on the French side.
Leaving Andorra going to spain nearly every vehicle is stopped.

Thanks. Did you goll

Thanks.
Did you take that road right up to Encamp in Andorra How's the top section?

Which route do you recommend?

I go the c14-n260-n174 then go over the top and down.

Is the road quite narrow on the French side?

No you will have no problem.
Lots of dual carriage ways
Andorra to foix n20
Thanks that's reassuring .
Can you recommend a good spot in Andorra to stop for a few days easy hiking?

There is a few places you can stay. There is a aire/car park, free on a night but you have to pay daytime on the French side in pas de la casa. Turn left on the roundabout by the police station

Does your route take you right through Andorra? It looks like it veers off to the east (to the right)
Sorry only got my phone maps to work on.

Sorry it should be n260 then n145 trying to do it from memory out at the moment. once in Andorra just follow the signs for France

Thanks. The weather is very wet so not ideal conditions but i'm curious to see it.
I appreciate your help. Hubby is worried it'll be dangerous but I'm sure he's wrong.

No danger it's a nice run up and over.
What's the run down like on the French side? We've heard some horror stories hence my partners concern given the bad weather. .sorry to keep up the questions! It's been hard finding out this info online!

We've driven it many times, in both directions, in a 6.7 metre motor home and had no problems.

Anyone following this might be interested to know the Ordessa national park is really fab to visit. There's a four star acsi campsite called Pena Montanesa (under the craggy mountain of that name) giving it a great view. Indoor and outdoor pools spa etc plus great facilities. Best super 'supermercado ' onsite I have ever seen. They have an English book of 30 walks in the Ordessa park including a two day one where you stay in a 'Refugio' en route.
We only had time for one walk but it was magnificent. We plan to return and stay here for a week to do more. It is right next to an impossibly beautiful hilltop medieval monastery community called Ainsa that is now tourist shops but fantastic outlook and old buildings.
From there we drove cross country today to a tiny village on the border of Andorra called Gerri de la Sal which has free parking by the river and is beautiful. (Park4night)
We are just 90 minutes from Encamp Andorra.
This is the site at Gerri

Don't like to say told you so, but "told you so". Glad you enjoyed it.

It was a fabulous tip! Such a lot to see too! Not sure if you used another campsite though? That one is particularly comfortable with a fabulous view of Mount Pena which I could stare at all day with the cotton wool clouds skittering about.

Easy journey,,not too steep,,,not narrow,,,BUSBY.

Just crossing back to Folkestone today. Great trip and it was a perfect route. Was a bit of a shock to encounter all the commercialism of a badly built ski resort in Andorra after the simple beauty of the northern Spanish villages but the peaks were fabulous and we will return for some more summer hiking and who knows, winter skiing.
Our new Globecar Campscout now has an extra 3000 miles on and came through beautifully and is everything we hoped. Thank you all so much for your advice and support.
