Just a random thought
We have had the current van nearly five years and I can only remember driving it once in the dark.
I've no issue with night driving but just seem to avoid it ìn the van.

Why would you?
I think I’ve driven ours once in the dark as well. That was in France, and trying to keep up with guy in front who was leading the way, driving Parisian style. OK in a car,but not in a van.o_O😲

The only time we drive at night is to the ferry port at Portsmouth so we can arrive after the permitted time to park up and wait for the ferry in the morning.

I always drive to Cornwall in the dark, best time to go imo, and have done for over 30 years when you used to have to go through launceston etc

We use ours a lot more in the summer so seldom drive after dark especially as it's at home now so we don't have to fetch it from storage

About the only time we drive in the dark includes country lanes to get to Dover from friend's parking.

i find it easier on lanes because one can see headlights before the bends.

Had to do it in March on the mad dash back to the UK from Spain. And ended up in Zaragoza at abt 7 in the evening looking for the campsite to stop over night, as it was the only place open and not been there before. Pouring of rain and they had turned off all the street lights to deter people from moving abt
It was not pleasant!

We've had ours for three years and 15,000 miles and never driven at night, have used the headlights in poor weather and through tunnels though, so it's nice to know they work 😁

Same here, almost never, in fact only in the early morning in winter time. Never at the end of the day as far as I can remember.

the last time I drove the Motorhome in the dark was in Spain and we were nearing Benidorm ,somehow we ended up in the middle of a group of ladies of the night who had gathered at the entrance to a lane which had a very lonely club half way down .We made a u turn and passed the very surprised ladies again ,some of whom were were only teenagers.

In Poland by law one must have dipped headlights on all the time. Fortunately I can leave the switch in the 'ON' position on the MH because they turn off with the ignition, but the Honda car does not, so we have to remember to turn on and off.

We only tend to drive in the dark during the winter. Sometimes, if we are touring, we get distracted from our original route and take longer than originally planned to reach a site.

During the summer we are usually on sites or Aires by 4:00pm, so no need.

We usually do the trip away from home at night, you know, the big boring one that gets you towards the area you want to be in
Have grub then head out 8pm(ish) and drive thro the night
Usually just us and the truckers, roads are pretty empty

We often do a night drive in the van when coming back over to the UK. We make a double BBQ for dinner, load up and then drive the 800km to Calais and usually arrive in the wee hours at the tunnel, we then sleep for the 30mins on the train and once in Blighty we stop for breakfast which is the balance of last nights BBQ, there's nothing like burnt sausage to wake you up.

We once cooked a Pine Marten overnight on the engine on the way back to the UK, the smell alone kept most people awake from Dijon to Reims:LOL:

We have only ended up driving in the dark once when we’re away. We couldn’t find the Stelplatz on the outskirts of Trier so had to look for another. It was interesting to find the Stelplatz was full next morning. We were so knackered we didn’t here any one else arrive.
Breakfast sat on the banks of the Mosel was worth the extra driving.

Tell you what's best, near mid-summer get up just before dawn, so about 3am. Set off just as dawn is breaking, roads are near deserted and we can get down to the Chunnel by about 10am, great drive.

When I was a coachie I preferred driving at night, roads (and passengers!) quieter and with a good co-driver we couldn't half cover some miles.
Nowadays I rarely drive at night, no need in the van as like others we park up before it gets dark. In fact I actually now find it quite tiring, probably due to age finally catching me up.

A day out to the coast in Winter (Autumn/Spring also?): heater on, warm drinks with nice views, food, read a book, listen to radio.

THEN home in the dark!

Gordon

As it gets dark early in winter it means most Friday nights that we head off after work is in the dark.

Drove from Dumfries to Euro tunnel last October leaving Dumfries at 4pm so most of that journey was in the dark.

Much prefer night driving ,less idiots on the road and not a lot, stop start queue's.
Road closeure maybe (A30) but always an easy alternative.
And France looks much better in the dark 😉

Regularly drive in the dark - don't even think about it, it's just driving

Like most people we tend not to drive on the dark in the van, but don't deliberately avoid it.
Two journeys overnight of note. Leaving Ross Castle near Killarney in the small hours after low life tried to get the bikes off the rack, we ended up in Cobh as we couldn't find anywhere to park in the dark, and leaving Ile d'Oleron at 3 am after no sleep because of an illegal rave. Next stop was going to be Puy du Fou so went straight there and bunked down.
Often arrive home after dark especially when out in the winter.

Drive in the dark a lot by car but hardly ever in the mh. Those round hella headlights are pathetic on the rare occasions I have driven the mh at night. I did try changing them for led but that upset the canbus.
