Benimar Mileo 282
Planning to work our wide down from Santander to the Mar Menor in February next year and wanting to stop off in Segovia and Madrid. The route from Santander to Madrid is via Valladolid on the N-611. I don’t know what the altitude of this road is but can anyone advise as to what road conditions we might expect. I don’t currently have snow tyres on our motorhome, or all season for that matter. Benimar fit only summer tyres which seems strange in a way, but they have only done 7000 miles so I don’t really w@nt to change unless absolutely necessar.

We use this route and have never experienced any real problems
the Spanish are very good at keeping the roads clear if you do encounter snow
The pass at Somosierra is a particular high point but the ploughs keep it open

Why take the N roads. You can get to Madrid toll free and if you go around via the M50 I think it’s called you can get south toll free too. We did it in March all the way to Motril toll free all on motorway from Santander. I’ve not seen the snow on the motorway but have seen the snow ploughs parked up to clear it when it came. Huge parking areas off the side where they put you whilst they quickly clear it. I take Neil S route except motorway all the way to Burgos, I find the bit he does to be a bind, then I pass Madrid to the east of it to Aranjuez for the night

Looks like I should have said the A-67, some of the A-67 is the same as N-611 but I did mean the toll free road.

I've done a number of winter trips in recent years, in cars and my van. The initial stretch through the high mountains often has quite a lot of snow on the mountains and down to the adjacent fields but the roads have always been clear. Summer tyres were absolutely fine. Once you're past the initial bit and on the way to Valladolid it improves.
