It's years since I used the Ferries but it does not look like there is much queuing traffic at Port of Dover other than in the embarkation lanes for the ferries. Since the removal of the operation stack one way system on the A20 I am not sure where they hold lorries now if there are delays. It used to to be at Manston Airport, but I think the new holding area at Ashford may be operational now. Either way the roads that us motorhomers use seem clear all the way.Just reporting what they said on the Radio , up to 2 hour delays at dover for Calais crossings due to customs checks and sheer volume of traffic.
Yes I did the same with the same result. There were several photos yesterday and some complaints from hauliers, which is why I used the https://live.sixfold.com website to check, (which is still showing a 7km tailback). It may be down to update frequency, and perhaps as long as only one of two lanes are blocked and other traffic is getting through OK then it would not show up on Google traffic. Presumably It would depend upon the number of Google maps users speeding by cars vs the number stationary in haulage vehicles.Hmmmmm ................. pinch of salt needed
Just checked Google's traffic maps. No delays on the A20 or A2 from the M25 to Dover and Folkestone. Only slow moving traffic is recorded within the docks. No queues leading to the tunnel check ins either, and just the normal queue for customs and immigration clearance.
Looking at that site it appears that the new lorry holding area at Ashford is up and running and is shown as red. So I suspect that is where the hold ups will be. Am I right in thinking that most of the custom and immigration checks are carried out there rather than at the docks and tunnel?Yes I did the same with the same result. And in any event such border delays for freight are quite common on other EU borders - Turkey for example.
In my experience it's quite rare for a problem at junction 12 to back right up to 11a which I believe is the off-ramp to the Tunnel, so no congestion there is no surprise.
Still - I'm glad I switched from the ferry to the tunnel yesterday, albeit for different reasons.
I'm tempted to drive down there just to experience a motorway without hold-ups.If one lane was stationary Google maps would show it as at least being slow, but it is green all the way at the moment. And the M20 and then A20 clear all the way to the port roundabout
