I seem to be cursed with a mains problem with my Fridge Freezer. It all started after we bought the N + B Arto van second-hand in 2018. We went to Polch for the factory weekend and a Dometic engineer fitted a new mains element and it worked again for a while then stopped working. Covid then intervened and we have been quite happy using the unit on gas. I have tried various places in Devon to try and get it fixed with no joy. At the Stoneleigh motorhome show this last weekend I talked to the boss at DMS - Direct Motorhome Services, a large Dometic specialist dealer and he got his lads to look at it on Monday morning. They showed me the mains input to the brick on the back of the fridge was working, the mains output from the brick to the element was working and the mains element was evidently visible glowing red though I couldn't see it. The digital thermometers placed inside the fridge and freezer demonstrated that it was cooling as intended.

Stunned into silence there was nothing that I could say really other than it never ever seems to work when we try to use it on electric.

We arrived home and I put the van back on our mains hookup. It was working fine and the temperature gauges I bought to go in both the freezer and fridge were ample evidence that it was working yesterday afternoon.

This morning I went out and the fridge was in error mode, flashing red lights etc and completely defrosted with the temperature gauges showing near enough ambient temperature at 20C.

The CBE control panel shows that mains is connected and the battery voltages confirm that they are on charge. I haven't had time to check the mains voltages in and out of the brick today but I'm throwing this out to see if anyone has any ideas as to what the fault might be.

I will email DMS, who were very good yesterday and did not charge us anything for their time in looking at the issue for us, to let them know that it is clearly an intermittent problem. They are however based in Nuneaton which is a long way from west of Exeter!

One of the downsides to buying a van up country and the local guys are too busy!
