Hi, if you can’t plug the moho into mains before trip how bloody long does the fridge take to get cold on gas?? It’s been 2 days now and still warm. Last week on EHU worked fine.

From what I have learnt on hear gas is more efficient. Something not right?

Mine cools as quickly on gas as on 240v elec.
Is the gas system actually working? If you don't have an observation window to see the gas flame check for warm air coming out of the top vent.

I think it is quite likely to be aggravated by the warm weather.
Remove the top vent and the fly screen. You may be able to fit the vent cover again later. Removing the fly screen is recommended in the fridge manual in warm weather.

Is the gas on to the fridge, not just the hob.

Comparing the performance of the fridge on the two hottest days of the year with those relatively cool days of last week was always going to yield disappointment. The last couple of days will have been a challenge for any absorption cooling fridge that isn’t fitted with cooling fans.

It’s a case of “I’m afraid they all do that Sir”.

Is the flame roaring if not it needs cleaning as it’s not getting hot enough to boil the refrigerant to allow it to do its job.

Thanks for all the replies, Gas working and pilot light can be seen. It just isn’t getting cool let alone cold. There is a “fridge fan” switch but when switched on doesn’t make any sound so assume not much happening there, but would have thought even without fan working the fridge should chill slightly even in this weather and certainly at night?

Sounds knackered, gas is usually best for cooling.

As Off da Grid mentioned earlier, can you hear the flame roaring? If not, depending on the model, check the display on the fridge. Ours shows a bar graph for temperature setting; more bars equals cooler.
If that all seems ok, it suggests the jet may be blocked.

When did the fridge last have a service,as in had the chimney and burner cleaned? Don’t be tempted to turn the dial right up,we find ours works best between 5 and 7 o’clock on the control.

Just a thought. Have you gone back to basics by turning everything off, including the gas at the bottle or tank.
With the gas off, turn on a hob burner to release the line pressure, turn the hob off again before turning the gas on again and then go through the fridge lighting process.

You may know all of this already but I thought I would mention it.

Thanks all, I'll try suggestions gas off then on an give jets a good blow, The gas certainly isn't roaring just a flame so guess blocked or dirty. many thanks for all of your replies and time.

Ours lights perfectly but if the motorhome is not reasonably level it does not get cold.
How level are you?

Is the flue blocked/partially blocked by soot?

I've taken the gas feed pipe out and cleaned the small injector and the pilot area. Yepeeee it fires up and now ROARS as you've said it should. I'm well chuffed its working and thanks to all of you for your inspiration and comments. The van is parked on a slope so probably wont chill down, but it fires up and will work next time we go off grid.

Great. Fridge maintenance initiation over.
When you get home take the bottom vent off and vacuum out the back of the fridge.
Might be worth giving the flue a clean aswell.
Take of the top vent you should see a T shape pipe on top of the flue.
After tacking out the burner from the bottom to keep the crap from blocking it again.
Pull off the Tpiece and take out the spiral thing hanging on a piece of wire.
If you’ve got a radiator cleaning brush about 1” dia. Or a length of stiff wire with a piece of rag attached give the flue a clean, then vacuum or blow away the debris.

Will do, thanks for your help, very much appreciated👍
