Hello, my first post, I want to fit an external shower point to my 2016 Imala 620. I have seen them fitted (factory extra) on other vehicles and want to copy the arrangement. I have no problem doing the work, but have no idea currently of what is required. I imagine fitting the point to the side of the vehicle is simple enough, but its the internal plumbing etc which I need some help with, any ideas?

:welco:

This is how I fitted one in the Garage in my van.

I suspect you need to find where you can easily access the internal water pipes first. Do you want the option of a warm wash or cold only? If you want to use hot water you could look at introducing an adjustable thermostatic control valve so the water coming out is at a fixed temperature.

The internal pipework may be plastic pipes and push fit fittings but they may not be if it is an older vehicle. Push fit is easy to use and reliable.

The external connection point needs to be protected from frost. Could you put it inside a garage or locker? Even inside the gas locker would work if there was room. ?

Or you could go for a 12v (or battery operated) portable shower and a bucket. We had one (still somewhere in the garage) when we had the caravan.

The easiest thing would be to change the basin tap in the washroom for an extending one with a shower hose attached and a 'clip' that allows you to turn the flow off/on, then you can open the window, drop the hose out and use it for the dogs.

With the layout you've got with no garage there's no obvious place to put one near to where the plumbing is that would be protected from the frost.

Thanks for the input, some ideas here for me to consider, the end result will need to be very easy and convenient otherwise it will become a pain to use.

Have you considered a very simple option ‘Mud Daddy’ - probably depends on the size of your dog! Basically a water container that you fill with water to your desired temperature and then you pressurise (pump) and hose/brush the dog or walking boots etc. I carry one for my terrier who is a muck magnet!!

I have an external shower as standard with the plug in point in the (heated) cassette locker. In spite of having two dogs I have rarely had to use it
Most larger dogs only like cold water so if its only for dogs I wouldn't bother connecting to the hot supply.

On our PVC the bathroom is near the door, so I got another shower hose and a connector then put the shower head outside the door

On mine there's a side cupboard in the garage with, amongst other things, a shower fitting (mixer, flex, shower head) identical to the one in the 'normal' shower. Never used it though - my dogs walk around mud & puddles. That's if I persuade them to go out at all if the ground is wet :).
