I intend to buy a new TV for my motorhome, mainly to watch DVDs. I'm not savvy with Smart TV's, streaming and firesticks etc but I guess I'll learn! My main question is ; if I get a Smart TV with DVD then to use all the other features on the set do I need to connect to the campsite internet or do I need a satellite dish if off-grid or anything other gadgets? We stay on campsites in Western Europe, mostly France and Spain. Sorry if all this sounds vague so any practical advice on what a Smart TV can do and what I need to access the features would be very helpful. Thanks!

You will need an internet connection - either the campsite wifi or your own wifi network from a phone signal (from either a normal mobile phone or something built into your van).
It will let you watch streamed tv (youtube, BBC iPlayer, Netflix, etc. )

We use a fire stick for the smart bits. Easily updatable and exchanged. Will the smart TV still be smart in a few years the way some manufacturers drop old products....

Thanks for taking the time to respond. Appreciated!

Be aware that streaming television requires a lot of data and most (but not all) UK providers only allow you to use 25 gbs/month whilst in Europe. If your existing tv has an hdmi slot then a firestick is probably the most economical way to go rather then buying a new smart tv. Tesco mobile will allow you to use all your data in Europe for two months in every four currently but you must use it in the uk as well.
