Some....good & bad!
As above, we're toying with the idea of one or more of the German themed routes, just curious if reality lives up to expectation and any recommendations for which ones are best.
Wondered about the Romantic road and then the Bavarian alpine one....any opinions?
Also, are these likely to be rammed, late August and September?

We did this in Autumn 2014 (www.terryandbren6.blogspot.com) going south on the Romantischestrasse, west on the Alpenstrasse (needed a little backtrack) then north through the Black Forest - which has one of those ridiculously long names with a final stop in Luxembourg. Late September obviously not crowded but earlier should be okay.

Very popular most of the time but not unbearably so JMHO

Last year there was some free route leaflets on the net but afraid I don't know where they were now , I'll have a look if I can find it

I can't seem to find them anymore, they all seem to have gone digital now.
But if you can find them they really were good, it was all different routes and hotels and stuff on the maps.

Thanks Chaser, i'll look out for them.

We have just got to the end of the Fairytale Route, towns with connection to Brothers Grimm, a bit of marketing spiel, but all really nice small towns with great stellplatz. Now in Wurzburg at the start of the Romantic Road, this has some lovely towns on it and again some great stellplatz. I guess it depends what you like, we love small German towns with great architecture and amazing restaurants and ice cream parlours, just don’t believe all the marketing spin!

We did Mosel which we loved then bits of the Romantic road then the alpine route which is amazing!

There are more scenic routes in Germany than you might think, the tourist office has a good webpage...

you can also do a google on the German equivalent 'Deutsche Ferienstrasse' for lots more info, obviously in German but some should work with a google translate...
