My van has a CBE DS300 controller which arranges for the engine battery to be charged when on EHU, once the hab batteries are charged. I have a solar panel, and the solar controller is connected to the hab battery terminals on the DS300 and only the hab batteries are charged from the solar panel. I would like the engine battery to have some charge from solar, so I'm considering fitting a CBE CSB2 as a simple and relatively inexpensive solution.

My question is - can I simply connect the CSB2 to the engine and hab battery terminals on the DS300 and let it do its thing without causing any problems with the existing charging setup?

I connected mine to the B1 and B2 terminals works fine with no issues.

This previous thread discusses the CBE CSB2 & also the Battery Master with respect to the CBE system:

That's what I did on our van works well
I did fuse it on both connections just for my peice of mind

My van has a CBE516 charger and CBE DS304TR distrubution unit.
I fitted a dual battery controller to the output from my 200w solar panel using the -B2 as the earth and +B1 and +B2 for the connections to the hab battery and the cab battery.

All seems to work fine.

This avoided having to run new cables from the cab battery to the controller.

That's interesting. No reason why it shouldn't work. Infact, with the alternator spinning and the starter/leisure batteries linked...you should get both solar outputs contributing to topping up the leisure battery. Win,win situation

In theory yes but need to check the starter battery connection on your DS3000 is a direct connection and is live without the engine running.

I've used the CSB2 on my last 2 vans connected via my Elektroblock works well.

The control panel shows the starter battery voltage without the engine running, so I assume so, but I’ll check, thanks.

as Lenny has indicated you would need to check that start battery connection on the ds300 unit...
on mine fitted on a chausson there is no battery terminal present in the ds300 distribution unit even though the circuit board has a place for it ... they all vary slightly and are manufacturer specific..

you say your solar is connected to the hab battery via the distribution unit...again if I did that on mine I would have to have the control panel switched on in order to have a connection to the hab battery via the main relay.. so I went straight to the hab batteries, but then as you are proposing I fitted a battery charging relay (stirling product in my case ) between hab and start batteries so that the start battery could benefit from the solar input as well..

I just fitted one today. I have an Elektroblock EBL 119 without its associated solar controller, so I have a separate Victron 75/15 solar controller charging just the leisure batteries.
I fitted the CBS2 with a fused lead to the leisure battery and one to the starter battery and it seems to be working fine.

Just a heads up for anyone with a CSB2 or CSB2-LT, there was a recall of these between certain batch numbers.
