We like ground coffee and normally take the disposable filters, has anybody tried using coffee bags? seeing the add for coffee bags I like the idea, they will take a lot less room has anybody tried them? Are they any good?

This is not a new concept. Unless the new ones are significantly better than the old ones I wouldn't bother. The coffee was very weak even if you left the bag in for ages and then your coffee was luke warm.

Yes the ad makes me laugh.
“Why hasn’t anyone thought of this....”
They did years ago and they weren’t that good!

I tried them years ago but they had put instant coffee in the bags as well as the ground. These seem to be just ground coffee. We're going to buy a pack to try if we can get one. They're on Amazon but in packs of 3 that's a lot if they are not good.

we have tried Growers Cup and they are pretty good, better than instant but not as good as one from an espresso machine, nothing like the old ones which were like teabags with coffee in them.

Cotswolds have them singularly and a good backup option.

Her indoors bought some Taylor’s of Harrogate ones and I couldn’t really tell any difference from our usual granule type , until she fessed up and then I didn’t like them ?

I found the bags a little weedy - ok in a cup, no good in a mug. Must admit I haven’t tried any recently. I am not a fan of instant coffee, so may try again. I use one of these...bit of a faff if you drink loadsa coffees, anyway, it’s my Moho luxury item ?

Nesspresso machine. ?

I quite like the Taylor's ones and also the Lyons ones. Ok they don't give you the same hit as a decent barrista coffee but are better than instant and if you make it in a thermal mug, you won't be suffering from luke warm Joe !

When in NZ we stayed at a number of lodges on campsites. Some provided "Geds" pyramid shaped ground coffee in bags. I loved them and bought about 10 boxes back with me. Knowing I would run out I starting looking in the UK for them. I emailed them and despite being aligned to Dow Egberts they said they were not intending to sell here. That's a pity. I have since tried PERCOL (available in Sainsburys) and they are not quite as strong but still pretty good. Make no mistake these are like Perc coffee not expresso so if that's what you want don't bother. If perc coffee these are a satisfactory and convenient alternative

Yeah we used Geds last year when we were there . Very nice

I got a box of Taylor's bags. Didn't like the flavour at all. Put them in the bin and ordered some Dow Egberts filters from Amazon.
They take a bit more room but I know they're OK. At home we have a filter machine and I did think about getting one for the van but it won't work off grid so we're sticking with the filters.

We do use a filter machine off the inverter, but, do have to keep turning it back on when the machine"rests"

French press is a easy solution. We bought a full stainless steel one so no broken glass.

I'm in the Bialetti camp too so it's a +1 from me

Is it me, but I find it difficult to distinguish plainly between all the different types and brands of coffee and certainly don't get the "hit" that coffee addicts crave. I don't wake up desperate for the first cup, drink 30 cups a day like my hyper active pal or find myself unable to function without one inside me. All coffee smells way better than it tastes (I like the taste, don't get me wrong) and the odd cup of coffee does taste a bit better than some but I can't wax eloquently about the stuff. Has it taken over from tobacco in providing a daily pleasure for some?

This is what you need for great coffee ... no plastic waste and most importantly, coffee is brilliant..

Purchased :D
I'll give them a go and report back (if I can ever find this thread again haha

Some things are worth the time and the space. Coffee is the main one.

We have tried many methods over the years one of the main problems is washing any reusable equipment. Don't want to wash the grounds in to the waste tank and it's impossible to tip all the grounds into the bin. OK at home with main drainage but not when we're away. We have used the disposable filters for years now and like them but they are bulky and whilst I'm not an eco warrior, it is a lot of single use plastic too.

I use them a lot. Not terribly strong but one heck of a lot better than instant

Been a cafetière coffee drinker in the MH for over a year, try to get most of the grounds into a bag (usually the miniature sized breakfast cereal bags :D ) but I haven't had any issues washing the remainder down the sink into the grey tank.
As I've said before, if you empty three quarters of grey whilst on site and let the last quarter slosh about until the millisecond you arrive home / at the next destination and then drop the remainder quarter tank into the garden / MH service point. You'll not get a better drain after that sort of "wash cycle"

I use a senseo coffee machine from philips and they use a pod that looks just like a round tea bag.
As part of the kit they give you a convertor to use your own ground coffee in the machine.
The senseo bags are dear but Lidl do their own 18 for £3.30 or buy them in luxemburg 6 euros for 100.
I've even got cruiser addicted to them

I've thought about a coffee machine but I only have a very small cheap inverter and small solar panel so don't want anything electric.

The plastic filters from Waitrose and M&S are good but there’s a lot of plastic waste. Douwe Egberts used to do them as well or was it Rombouts, not seen those for a while though. Lyons Coffee bags are ok but not strong enough, might need two bags.

We use an Aeropress with fresh ground coffee, its one of life's little pleasures for me grinding coffee whilst sat in the van normally waiting for breakfast.
At work I use Salisbury's personal drip filter coffee bags quite like them.

Best flavour is either the paper filters, or made in a pot on the stove with water which is a couple of degrees below boiling. Around 55g coffee to 1L water. Let it steep for around four minutes, give it a stir, then pour off coffee.

Both better than cafetiere or aeropress to my taste. Don't mention coffee bags...

No special equipment needed and spend the savings on good coffee, ground for a filter. :)

If you liked those rombouts plastic coffee filter things try searching for Vietnamese coffee filter they're made from stainless steel and sit on top of your cup put your favourite ground coffee in and top up with hot water. Just the grounds to dispose of everything else is washable.
