I'm a newbie
I want to do a deep clean on our new to us motorhome.
I have taken all seat covers off and washed ( was a bugger to get back on 🙄 but all done )
I would like to clean and freshen up mattress before putting on our own memory foam mattress on top.
I do have a steam cleaner but not sure if ok to use on mattress because of foam any thoughts?

I would be giving it a good hoover first with a powerful vacuum to get dead skin out before any dampening. That’s where the mite’s will be. In fact if I was adding a topper I would be inclined to get a new mattress. Don’t like the idea of sleeping in a bed someone else has for some time.

I just ordered a new one from these guys. My van (collecting today) is a 2009 so the Mattress has up to 12 years of other people farting on it. No way i'm using that.

I went for a 20cm deep best quality they do for a French style and X2 fitted sheets for £600.

You plonk your sizes in the website then they email you a picture of it drawn out to check the shape (important been a french style) Then you ok it and it gets made. Website estimates 3 weeks but talking to them on the phone the guy said most stuff is shipping out within 2 weeks. They were also very helpful on the phone with my queries.

We had a mattress topper made for our over garage bed, it wasn’t a perfect fit despite, mr precise engineer John sending a-dfor with exact measurements, was good enough though. Problem is it has shrunk, didn’t know that was possible now a 2” gap all the way round and the zipped cover has moved so zip is on the top not the side. Can’t remember who did it but will be naming when i find the receipt so others don’t get caught out.
Editted to answer OP original question,, the van we bought from emm-bee not this one, had the mattresses deep cleaned before we took delivery, believe they used a archer steam cleaner which also partially dries.

I threw the old mattress away and simply brought and cut a new memory foam one to fit. It’s so comfy and dead easy to do and cut and no more sleeping on other peoples bed bugs, now they’re all ours.

The mattress itself is ok firm and not dirty. I would still like to clean before I put my own foam mattress on top. Just wondered if anybody had cleaned there's and if so how?

I got mine from Argos, came wrapped up, so easily transported.

Th mattress in the van is in 3 parts, but I only needed to change the large centre section. So took it indoors and laid it on the new one (after 24 hours to allow it to fully shape), drew around it and cut the new memory foam one to size and put in the van. It makes such a difference and is a far cheaper option in my opinion.

The bit that surprised me the most, was cutting up the old mattress to dispose of it. Just utter rubbish, with 2 small sprung frames, that didn’t even meet in the middle or long enough to support your lower body and surrounded by that cheap foam that breaks down and produces dust. No wonder it was uncomfortable to sleep on.

We have this debate every time we look at a 2nd hand van - no way I will be sleeping on someone else's mattress, my hubby thinks a good hoover and all will be OK. Anyway, whatever he says I will be ordering a mattress and he has had to reluctantly accept its non negotiable lol. I'm happy to clean everything else but to me it just makes sense, relatively small cost in the overall scheme of van costs.

Very clever. We will replace the whole mattress probably buy a normal household 1 and hubby will cut corner to size works out a lot cheaper than having 1 made.

Lol I'm the same everything else don't mind cleaning. My hubby too thought a good hoover and I would be ok. Even bought me a better Hoover 😂😂 But he knew deep down that wasn't going to do it for me. Anyway I've been looking at cost. Made to measure are quite expensive for what they are, so may just buy a normal household foam mattress one and hubby cut corner off to fit. 😊
