Christmas this year will be in the van
No decorations
For those we will ban
They'll be no tinsel, not even a tree
Christmas alone, for Caz and for me

Drive somewhere quiet, so lonely, so free
Christmas for saddos, for thats Caz and me
A big turkey? not this year
Just have a small crown
Why dont you get in the spirit, I hear you all frown.

No television, we'll make our own fun
Scrabble and hangman, i'll go for a run
A walk with the dogs, onto the sands
Christmas this year, we have just banned

No queueing in shops, no masks where we'll be
No visiting family, for Caz and for me
It sounds idyllic, remote in a camper
No stress, its so peaceful
Right Paul, go cancel that bloody hamper.

We are going to make every effort, if they let us to go to Dubai to visit our grandson (and his mum and dad of course). Will not have seen them for 15 months.
Much fun will be had by all.....inshallah.

CazPaul your poetic description of your potential Christmas is what my husband and I deliberately seek every year.
We are orphans and have no children, but I have no intention of changing our plans to find somewhere quiet and beautiful to escape all the "fuss" and just be together. I wouldn't have it any other way.
PS
I am not a Grinch.

Now we have a grown up daughter, who has no kids, Christmas is a very simple event for us. I used to look forward to the time off, especially as the run up to Christmas used to be manic, but now I'm retired even that has gone.

Sounds idyllic. Little bit of Peace on Earth... and isn't that what Christmas SHOULD be about. Xx

Oh to be away from the hassle, from it all
On a beach in Spain ... I can hear the call
But not this year, no way Jose
We'll have to stay here for Christmas Day!

I can hear it now ... "Are you having Mum?"
"You can't leave her at home feeling glum!"
They don't realise that she's happy with that
Watching her soaps and all the Christmas crap

So we might just pop off on our own to the coast,
I know it's not Spain, but we'll just make the most
of the view and the beach; we'll have to pretend
it's for a few months, not just the weekend

Yes, it'll be cold and no doubt dull too
But better than watching TV seasonal 'poo'
Our meal will probably be a nice Vindaloo
So no massive pile of washing up to do!

A potter on the beach, dogs running about
Then a slob in the van, giving hubby a clout
for snoring his head off, too much grub or beer
Not to mention the farting ... such Christmas cheer!

Then back home again waiting for New Year
When all the idiots will set off fireworks I fear
We can settle back down once it's all done
and look forward to a bit of nice summer sun

Christmas - the holiday that divides families! "Why can't we just have Christmas at home rather than dashing all over the country to have to be with (_________ fill in the blanks)". Why is it that singletons are always the ones who have to travel? Why do singletons "have to come to us 'cos you can't have Christmas on your own". It is a time of year I normally dread, but I have discovered the pleasure of going to a country house at vast expense to be pampered for three days in glorious surroundings and meeting like minded people (unless Boris cancels such events this year)! As you can tell, I'm not a fan of Christmas - or New Year!

That would be lovely and hope you can . No chance of us seeing our Aussie daughter :-(

I LOVE Christmas [and Halloween- and Solstice ... and Bonfire night etc ] but agree Christmas can be very stressful for reasons already quoted. For us the family tug of wars between grandparents are no longer- I have made it crystal clear to daughter and SiL I do not expect to see them drag the kids to us over Christmas after years of to-ing and fro ing with ex husband and ex- in laws as as well as my parents .. snow and ice spoiling plans was the least of it.
Now a quick zoom to them and if they are happy I am happy.
I content self with spending 2 days putting up my Christmas tree [1/12/whatever year !!] and remembering all the previous years spent with family who are no longer here, but happy memories.
People should feel free to do as they wish and make their Christmas/New Year /Eid/ whatever they want and not feel the need to explain or apologise . A lot of the hype is cascaded by consumerism . Be happy in your own way xx

Our plan was 6 weeks in Dubai then onto Aussie for 7/8 weeks. Got some unfinished roads to travel.
As you say no chance getting into Aussie for a long time.

I was going to have 2-3 weeks in the sun with Ian the builder but we've put the veto on it due to the virus, I might just stock the van up and go and hide in Thetford forest for a few days. No dog this year though.

Is so sad . She was due here in July but not possible . Is a year past July since we were together . She can’t leave and we can’t go :-( Even worse she has been in lockdown for 7 months as she lives in Melbourne . Working from her bedroom with 1 hour exercise per day . So we are all very lucky in Europe !

We absolutely love Christmas. In fact we will be celebrating Christmas for the first time in about 2-3 weeks when darling daughter is over from Bangladesh on her part work part holiday trip. She won’t be home in December so this will be our family Christmas. Final date has yet to be confirmed. The Chistadelphians reckoned it should have been September so our date in Oct/Nov will be a compromise. Father Christmas will be visiting. No doubt I will do it all again on the 25th December but this will be the best one.

For those who don’t like Christmas it’s not compulsory, you can do as much or as little of it as you like. Covid19 has shown us how easy it is to avoid shops.
