Canary island's could collapse under strain of tourism.

Our trip to Lanzarote and Fuerteventura starting at the tunnel through to Cadiz ferry to Lanzarote, ferry to Fuerteventura and all the way back😢

What a trip (y)

eems odd to me why do they allow development if there's no infrastructure to cope with the number of people?
The same as they allow unrestricted land clearance & crop planting, here on the peninsular ,without the water to irrigate them.

Seems odd to me why do they allow development if there's no infrastructure to cope with the number of people? It's a failure of planning tourists can only stay if planning is granted for the accommodation
No. It's a shit news story

Hmm. I've always found Tenerife and Gran Canaria rather barren and largely short of any sort of natural wonder, culture or historical attraction.
When I had my yacht at Puerto Mogan on Gran Canaria I was told by one local that the beach was created by bringing in sand from N. Africa.
I don't know Gran Canaria but Teneriffe has some extraordinary natural wonders. There is a massive difference between the south and north of the island. I first went there in 1979 and there was hardy a hotel in the south then.

This video shows a very fit bloke walking to the summit of Mt Teide at sunset.

You had a yacht! Impressive! 😮

Sod the yacht, he could afford the mooring fees in Mogan! :giggler:

And in my experience most the sand arrived as Calimas!
I think Spriddler worked at RR / Bentley years ago. So maybe he borrowed it from one of his customers. šŸ˜€

I only referred to it as a 'yacht' to indicate that I wasn't one of the Birmingham Navy motorised gin palace crowd. ;)

Much the same as in Chichester marina, but sunnier.

I did, but only from '61 to '66 as an apprentice mechanic so no chance to ponce favours off them.

Being on the boat we didn't make any trips on land (fortunately) except for one occasion when my biker chums and I hired some ride-on leaf blowers.............

and hooned up into the mountains, which is probably from where I got the 'barren' impression, as they looked much the same at the top as they did when lazing at the marina with a hangover.

We love Morgan. We’ve stayed in hotels there many times and admired the Gin Palaces. We also visit everytime we stay elsewhere on the island.

Gran Canaria is investing heavily in its motorway network and since it reached Morgan the volume of tourists has increased. But it doesn’t yet feel overcrowded..

When Yorick took on a tour around the volcanos there was a lot of sand that must have been blown over.

ps a great day loved the fish roll.

We loved Madeira, but expensive to get to and when we were there.

Also, bit of stuff…I think it is the fifth hardest place in the world to land a plane and pilots have to qualify to do it.

It is not so performance critical now that the runway has been extended on piles. As for crosswinds, the limits are the same for the aircraft at whatever airport - if they are exceeded one just goes around, holds if one has the fuel, or diverts, simples.

As for fifth hardest, I doubt it as there are several in the Himalayas, then Courcheval, Sumburgh and Klagenfurt, just in Europe, not to mention the beach at Barra.

And Northrepps international when it was in its previous location you landed uphill whatever the wind direction and in the motor glider the wings were over the crop at the edge of the runway! It was great fun.
