Does anyone know if I can convert a manual single Thule step to electric. My electric step works but has been bashed about and repaired a few times. I hoped I could buy the cheaper manual step and swop bits over.

I guess that some parts are common to both manual and electric but it depends upon which 'bashed about' parts you want to swap.

Can you not find a manual/spare parts list on the web and compare the part numbers of the parts you want to change? If the part number for one type is the same as for the other they are sure to be interchangeable.

If you go to the link they have all sorts of info and diagrams:
I put one of these on to replace a manual step, although they look the same, the electric one sat a bit lower and I expect they are different. I sold the manual step to someone converting a van.

The spare I have is an electric step less motor😊

Certainly looks like that. Our problem is the linkage pivots have plastic bushes that have worn so making the step very sloppy. The van had no rear mudflaps so the switch corroded and did not want me I had left it out. The loud bang alerted me though. Managed to dismantle it and straighten things but really needs replacing, it is probably twenty years old.

The step.

Many thanks Speve for the step, nice to meet you in person.

Just an update in case anyone looks at this in the future
Although basically the same step mine was an older model so there were some differences between the two electric steps.
The most obvious is the LH support plate, as you look at it, is larger. It appears the older motor set up was also larger and had metal gears as opposed to the plastic gears Speve found in his step which had failed. The three longitudinal struts are also different with the newer struts being radiuses rather than flat and to add to the fun different screw hole spacings. The struts are also in different places so some drilling required.I swopped the LH motor mount plate and the rear strut to clear the motor. The LH outboard moving arm had to be removed from the old LH mount plate to fit it to the new item. Simply grind it off and replace with a 10m bolt. The warning switch has to be removed from the old LH mount plate and fitted to the new, in a different position but easy. Last job was to trim the motor plastic cover to suit.
I think my warning switch packed up before buying the van so had to rely on memory to close the step........yes, I forgot and hit a kerb, twice! I have now added a mud flap behind the rear wheel to hopefully give the switch a longer life. We now get a warning when ignition on and retraction when starting the engine.
