enjoyed the freedom over the last couple of years but still Wish we could have got away more often
Hi all,

I am well past fifty now but still like to be near the sea when I go away. Doesn't have to be Barcelona but not too far in to Spain as we have limited time away from work.

Like somewhere peaceful but will be just after Easter so that might be too much to hope for.

Your suggestions appreciated.

As per @kaasbroodje - we stayed there last September. Great pitch right on the beach. Not cheap (and you need to book the type of pitch you want) but you can't get much closer to the Med! The only negative thing I have to say about the site is that it welcomes dogs but is not very dog-friendly.

Another vote for Tropicana, we have been to Bon Repos and it is definitely on the beach but I think it would be worth the extra 3 hours drive to Tropicana, Alcossebre is a very nice small not overdeveloped town.

Bon Repos has the advantage that you don't have to drive around Barcelona.

How bad do you mean by not dog-friendly?

If you believe the scare stories about Barcelona you would want a pitch with a nice view as you probably won't be moving for a while after someone has stolen your wheels. :)

http://www.campingbonrepos.com/en/ comes recommended.
We haven't visited yet but are booked in for August...
As a follow up post....
We have been here five days and can't possibly recommend it, for a number of reasons...
It's a gravel beach with a steep drop into the sea. I'm six foot odd, within three steps the water's above my head, so it won't appeal to everyone.
The beach is filthy. Plastic, cigarette ends and empty packets all around. I filled a 30ltr bin bag with rubbish within minutes... could spend all week litter picking...
The sea also has lots of floating litter (disproportionate to other beaches we've visited)
Sanity facilities- one block is dated but just about acceptable. The other is shocking... old, delapitated, even graffiti (tags) on the walls, it's just vile!
Worst part - €75pn for a beachside pitch.
I usually make a good call, but this time got it horribly wrong....
The sites only redeeming feature is its proximity to the train station and easy access to Barcelona. As a one/two night stopover it's fine, but for a beach holiday, there are hundreds of better sites out there!

If I remember the beach at Camping Barcelona was not much good either. But it does mean you don't have to negotiate Barcelona.................we knew we'd gone wrong as we drove past the Sagrada Familia

I would look at Vilanova with a regular bus into Barcelona (if you want to get your wheels stolen ????)

But also regular local bus direct to a nice beach at Vilanova i Gueltro and I think Acsi rates depending when you go.

I know this reply is a year late but thought I'd post it for information anyway.
I regularly stay (have a caravan there) at what I think is one of the best sites I've stayed on. It.s by the sea, well across the road, near a real Catalan village, 40km from Barcelona, 45 minutes by coastal train. Train opposite direction takes you to Calella if you you like the touristy British scene.
One of the cleanest sites you'll find, family owned and run and the and I family love it.

Camping Globo Rojo... anyone been?

As thread has come back to life a quick update, we stayed at Tropicana and camping Barcelona.

We had 10 days at Tropicana and had a great time, could be a noisey Saturday evening and dogs not allowed on the beach but not too commercialised in the surrounding area so would definitely go back.

We spent three nights at camping Barcelona, reception very helpful and booked us in at a vets for worming €15 Which was mega cheap and they had a free shuttle bus which stopped nearby vets which I was able to take the dog on. Wife and daughter took coach from reception to Barcelona for shopping. A small charge peak season. No real beach nearby but you could take free shuttle bus to nearby resort.

So for us Tropicana was a great destination and camping Barcelona a great stop over.

Thanks for everyone’s recommendations as it has helped find some great sites over the last few years.
