Hi all

I’ve had a good search through the forums and there seems to be several different opinions on this so thought it worth a post to pick your brains ...

Since buying the pilote I’ve resealed all the sides/rear with sikaflex.

I now want to sort the roof as I don’t think the van has been re-sealed in a while and there seems to be a design flaw (in my inexperienced opinion) ... between the cab and Hab area (right over the drop down bed) there is a roof joint that goes across the full width of the van but when it rains heavy the water pools right next to this joint which can’t be good long term ...

At the moment it looks like a white mastic has been used on it so my question is shall I use sikaflex again or shall I use something else? I’ve seen roof paint mentioned ... eternabond ... butyl tape etc ...

I’ll do the side rails and around the 2 roof lights aswell when I get a dry day ... any thoughts of wether to use a different product for these?

On our van the front cap to roof joint is bonded with Sikaflex and then sealed with a tape joint which is supposed to be renewed periodically, I replaced it with Eternabond Butyl tape(y)

Thanks very much Martin ... I was just looking at trying to source some ... it’s seems hard to get hold of in the UK and like you say it’s quite pricey.

Let me know how much you would like for it ... and let me know if labour is included? :D:ROFLMAO:;)

many many years! since I was a kid
when resealing skylights, always use mastic tape. the plastic in the skylights frames goes brittle over the years and needs replacing. if you sikaflex rotten plastic it becomes a much bigger job when you inevitably come to replace the skylights

I had to reseal the roof joints on my 20 year old Roadstar a few years ago, after speaking to a couple of places the recommendation I had was to use a good butyl tape and then paint over with Acrypol. https://www.roofingsuperstore.co.uk/product/acrypol-plus-white-5kg-box-of-4.html
I ended up using this tape, https://www.roofingsuperstore.co.uk...iversal-stretchable-tape-90mm-x-10m-roll.html not cheap but totally flexible/stretchable, can be stretched around roof lights and vents smoothly. 5Kg tin of acrypol covered the entire roof with some left over.

I have a similar problem to the OP .... water pooling around the roof joints and noticing very slight water ingress. So I plan to use this ....

3M 4411N Extreme Sealing Tape Neutral 50mm x 5.5m

I'm going to remove the mouldings, clean up the joints, lay the sealer tape and then replace the thin, original moulding with a wider one. At the same time raise the low spots in the panels so the water will not pool.
