Hi is it possible to run the gas appliances with a spare gas bottle via the built in barbecue point with the standard gas tank turned off.

Unsure if this gives steer to the right answer: https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/forum/threads/anyone-fitted-an-external-gas-point.166038/

the thread talks about teh following part way down; which may be in line with your ask:

"I put a Bulfinch one on the back wall of my hymer, tee'd into the hob gas feed and fitted a tap inline so I can isolate the BBQ point. Bought mine from Gas Products."

These guys chat about it too:

I would have thought it would be OK as long as you have a seperate regulator and you can somehow cross connect (or back feed) into the vans gas network

You'd need a regulator attached to the bottle.
If Calor, the gas is going to cost a lot more.

Yes, I have done that! Needed an 'emergency' supply while travelling for 3 months in Morroco where they don't do LPG!
Need a regulator, and just isolated the tank. Camping Gaz bottle sits nicely under the side seat, but they are a stupid price here, if you are going to Morocco in the future buy a bottle there, they are a fraction of the price. Very interesting how some campsites refill the bottles for you!!!!!!!
