I read that motorsports competitors are having to buy an ATA Carnet to temporarily import their cars or their transporters. Does the same apply to motorhomes ?
IT was my understaning that ATA carnets are required in respect of certain "goods" not for sertain "vehicles".
The Admission Temporaire/Temporary Admission (ATA) carnet is an internationally accepted document allowing certain goods to be temporarily imported or exported (for up to 1 year) without payment of duty and other import/export formalities. These goods include:
Commercial samples;
Publicity materials;
Advertising film;
Goods for international exhibition; and
Certain professional equipment.
Therefore I do not think it would apply to a motorhome
Presumably it will be the same or similar to pre EU membership.
In those days I was racing motorcycles and frequently went to Europe mainland to compete, the ATA carnet was mandatory if you wanted to relatively easily cross borders.
It was of course necessary to stop at every border crossing to get your documentation stamped, sometimes at same counter as freight lorries, which meant a long wait, other larger borders had separate counters.
The worst problem for the non professional with this, was the inventory as it wasn't just the bike (or car) that required declaration but everything associated with it, tools spares etc.
Can't see that it will be necessary for a registered vehicle such as motorhome, otherwise all vehicles would require one.
