We put our Omnistor awning out today for the first time this year, and it was stuck. After getting about half way out the winder refused to turn further, although there was a little movement. I sprayed with WD40, left a couple of minutes. Tried again, it suddenly gave way and the part above flew out of the winder housing! Clearly it’s sheared off, but the awning seems to work fine without it! It winds out smoothly and winds back in okay.
Does anyone have any idea what the broken part is, and what function it serves? We’re in southern France, so would ideally like to leave getting it fixed until we get home, but obviously if it is an essential part we may need to get it sorted out here. I believe it’s a 2015 model, put on when the van was new, if that’s of any relevance.
Any ideas gratefully received!

Out of interest do you have a Safari Room?

I ask because that looks a bit like an extra piece we had to fit to ours.

If my guess is right then you should be ok.

Centre tension rafter support or part of if you use 1 ?

Does this help?

@mfw, I don’t think so - we use a centre rafter, and it came from the winder end.

@bigtwin, thanks, none of the parts looks the same, although it could be 25?

Just wound ours out but can’t see any bits like yours

No. No safari room - it seemed to come out of the internal workings by the winder.

Thanks though.

@Allanm, I think the part is internal, so I think you probably wouldn’t see it. The awning is a 6200 model.

Thanks to all for suggestions - I’ve also emailed Rose Awnings for advice, but obviously being a bank holiday weekend am not expecting to hear from them imminently.

Are any of the parts you sprayed nylon? If so you need to clean it off, WD40 makes nylon swell many a Motorhome door hinge wrecked by spraying with WD40.

Oops! Probably not possible as it’s inside the winder housing, although it looks/feels far more like plastic to me than nylon. And it was about 5 hours ago now, so probably too late. Thanks for the tip though.

If it’s the part that you think it is, I wouldn’t wind the awning out again as that piece is supporting the ‘leg’.

We have the same awning, ;) so it attracted my attention.
At a guess I would say it part of the lock gear, ;) you might want to put some cable ties round it, just in case it unwinds on the move. Bob.

I am immensely grateful to John Rose of Rose Awnings who’s emailed me back to say “Nothing really to worry about. This is a fabric limiter catch. It can be problematic and the awning is fine without it. Its job is to stop the cloth being wound around the roller tube the wrong way.”
