Pilote G600
Exp
I’m a newbie
Brought a 2015 Pilote G600 in March, the couple we got it off had a habitation check and service done before we agreed to buy it.

it’s only done 23,000 miles, will I need a service, and habitation check done every year ? Or just a service and damp check ? I was thinking for peace of mind to get a service and habitation check done, because when we came to run the boiler off the electric it didn’t work, cost us £350 for a new circuit board !!! This should have been picked up on the habitation check !!!

naturally I don’t want to waste money, but after our first year it would be good to know all is working fine. Also people keep saying you need to change your tyres after 5 years even if the tread is fine the walls deteriorate, we think it has the original tyres still on it.

Thanks Sue

You will get many differing opinions on this.
Mine is as follows:

Definately have the vehicle serviced annually.
Once you get to know the van,the habitation side of it gets easier. You can do your own checks, your own overwintering stuff etc.,Learn (on here) how to check the gas.
You need to check the actual date the tyres were made. This is usually on the inside wall and is a four figure number.....eg 2215 means it was made in week 22 of the year 2015. Check the tyre for cracks in the side walls and lumps or bumps,as well as tread. PersonallyI wouldn’t go beyond 7 years.

OR.......if you can easily afford it,and want the peace of mind.......just pay to have a hab service....but make sure you know what you are getting for the money! Sounds obvious but they need to check everything properly!

Tyre age: look for the DOT code to see when your current tyres are made. Wear rates aren’t just indicated by tread depth.
How to Here

We’ll get a mobile motorhome tester in to do gas pressure tests & maybe dampness checks.
All the rest we can DIY with help from here.
Edit: as Podney mentioned vehicle chassis checks I’d do as routine servicing based n the manufacture’s guidance.

The MOT service should pickup any problems with the tyes or ask for them to check them.

Habitation services are a waste of money nothing you can't do yourself with common sense. Well worth getting the damp check done until the water ingress warranty runs out, may have already.

5 year old tyres are normally OK it the van has been driven regularly but with only 23,000 in 5 years it's probably been standing around a lot so probably worth changing for peace of mind. A blowout on a Motorhome can do a lot of damage.
