Heading down to the dordogne for new year and would like to break the journey up into a few days, I would like recommendations for an aire approx 2 hrs from leaving calais, will probably stick to main roads depending on weather.

Buchy, Just North of Rouen ???
If your going that way...

We stayed there this year, there is one in town next door to the camp site and one just North of town which is a free one, both good. (y)

I can echo this, handy for the supermarket & fuel too, but whatch the tight turn by the old pay koisk:(

You could try Conty aire
Borrowed from .motorhomingfrance.co.uk website

PARKING: FREE /72HRS SERVICES: FREE

OPENING TIMES: ALL YEAR

GPS COORDS: N49.74338 E02.15588

DIRECTIONS: Exit A29 @ Jcn 13 & take D901 SOUTH & D920 to CONTY. Continue thru village on D920 & turn LEFT before leaving into RUE DU MARAIS (just before D8 junction).

SITE DESCRIPTION: A pleasant Aire in a medium sized level parking area alongside a small road with spaces on grass, lighting, some shade from trees & a children's play area adjacent. Located on the edge of village next to farmland, with some lakes nearby & about 350m from the village centre with shops & restaurant. Artisanal service point with drainage grid that is a bit awkward to access.

REVIEW

1) CAMPING CAR MAGAZINE REVIEWED & RECOMMENDED : "Parking on grass & the rural ambience guarantee a good nights sleep here, only to be interrupted by the cockerel in the morning. Also there is a fresh bread delivery by the boulangers van in the morning."

2) A very quiet & peaceful place, nice walks/ cycle routes around the lakes but ground may become soft in wet weather. Notice board on site with local info -- restaurants/ walks & map. There is a fire station opposite but luckily they didn't have any call outs whilst we were there although the smallholding next door made enough noise.

Neufchâtel-en-Bray is worth considering
Yep - one of the best Aires we have stopped at, but it is quite expensive at 12E a night. For that you get your own pitch with low hedges all around it and a hardstanding and patch of grass, electrics, wifi, water, waste dumps etc. Just down the road are Intermarche, Lidl and Aldi. The site next door (owned by the same people) is also very good.

Another Neufchâtel fan. You can get on a proper camp site (n) for around 12€. And it's handy for Eric's big shop.

Might be a bit close for you but Le Crotoy is good head for the mariner , it is in the Aire book , short walk into the town plenty of bars , cafe,s and Moules ....
We usually stay there on the way back and bring home a few litres of moules :coolest:

I can second Le Crotoy, but it may be a little close for you, We have also used the aire just outside Neufchatel en Bray, its our sort of price, free!
