The High-Level brake light on my Autotrail MH has stopped working. I am getting a "Bulb failure" warning light on the dash.
I believe I have identified a suitable replacement - a Hella lamp unit which comes with a 200mm bare-end cable.
When I unscrewed the faulty unit, I found that the cable comes through a hole in the rear panel, but there is only about 30mm of free cable visible. I had hoped there would be a plug/socket or at least enough cable to pull through, to remove the unit for testing before buying a replacement. If I'm careful, I should be able to cut the cable and solder on the new cables, but wonder where else I can fault-find the wiring.
Is it common for the complete unit (12x LEDs) to fail, or is a wiring fault more likely?
Edit: I had searched for previous similar posts, but didn't see this one. It still doesn't answer my question though.

I have an Elddis Evolution 196. The high level brake light does not work. There is no live feed when brake pedal is pressed. All other brake lights are working. Does anyone know if there is a separate fues for the high level. The wires to the light are very very short and have no idea where they...
