Just to let as many folk know as possible, the A303 between the A350 junction and the Mere by-pass will be completely closed as from February 9th for about 14 weeks. (This is the single track bit from the Willoughby Hedge Barn where there are decent toilets in the layby and a nice cafe, to almost Wincanton)
The diversions from the west go down the A350 to Shaftesbury and then through Gillingham and back on to the A303 at Leigh Common. From the east all the traffic will go through Shepton Mallet, Frome and Warminster. These are VERY small roads and will be totally unable to cope with the amount of traffic being sent through them so please avoid the place if you can. No doubt the A30 will be well clogged up too. The Highways Agency say there is no choice as the foundations of the road are giving way and they will be working 24/7 to get it finished but unless you like traffic jams stay well away from the area. Unfortunately I can't as I live there - aaagggghhhh :Sad:
