A short trip to Scotumberland.

Back to the land of prince bishop's drive carefully
Thanks, did drive carefully.
Home now, set off at 10.
Journey was straightforward if a little sedate, most speed limits were 50.
Home at 12.15. Bit of a detour on the A75 at Bridge of Dee.
Road closed but no detour signs, took a B road up, across then back down to the A75.
Van now emptied, will get a good wash tomorow.
Will do a summary in next day or 2.

SUMMARY.
Really enjoyed all 3 locations, suited us for what we wanted to do; weather was kind.
We even caught the sun a touch too much, even though we were using Ultrasun.
In my case I use factor 50 on my face, nose, ears and follicley challenged head😎. But I might have missed it on one particular day😂.
Greenriggs cottage :- A lovely and genuinely 5 van  cs.
Perfect location for relaxing, really quiet, good for walks; excellent value at £13 a night.
Culzean castle ccc club site :- In the grounds of Culzean castle it's typical of a club site although it only has hardstanding pitches with  EHU. Suited us as we'd wanted to visit ever since we saw it on Antiques Roadshow. Didn't disappoint although at £31.50 a night was the most we'd ever paid.
Culzean castle and grounds are superb, one of the best NT places we have visited.
Mossyard, Gatehouse of Fleet :- Gorgeous location, our pitch was one row back from the beach, glad in the end as the beach front pitches were mostly very uneven.
Although a bank holiday weekend it wasn't too busy even though there were lots of kids about. Too many dogs though for our liking, especially as we saw dogs fouling on the grass on a couple of occassions. The owners did pick up but must be smearings left behind and not good with kids playing on the grass. We simply relaxed and had a beach walk twice.
Cost of £26 a night not too bad.
Put £80 of diesel in before we went and used 90% of it.
Total cost including diesel and sundries was £250.
Distance travelled, 365 miles; one for every day in the year!
At Dumfries Aldi, we bought something we'd not seen in English shops for donkeys years.
IMG_20250430_192442510_HDR.webpIt used to be simply Mothers Pride years ago with no Scottish link.

We will visit these area's again.

You still get mother’s pride I think that’s just Aldi copy of it.

I think it was always marketed in Scotland with a "Scottish" link as it was baked differently from the original bread from Manchester.

Whilst Mothers Pride was good always preferred Bilslands. Their iconic tower over the bakery was a Glasgow landmark until it was pulled down on the mid 2010's.

Funnily enough the building was later bought by the Mobarik family who own M Computer Technologies and custom built our first pc back in the late 80's.

Remainder of the building is currently being demolished.

if it's a copy, shouldn't have Mothers Pride on it.
You can get it in various supermarkets including Morrisons, Iceland and Tesco.

Still baked in Duke Street, Glasgow. We used to supply agency delivery drivers for them.

Apologies I didn’t read the label my mistake, I thought you’d said it wasn’t mother’s pride anymore. Teach me to read a thread properly 😂😂

It's only a couple of miles from your house so get round there with your specs on!

We use Iceland regularly and buy their own brand extra thick white occasionally but can't say I've seen MP in Iceland here in the North East.

Not like you to be missing a trick!
Check out the back for the bread trays with the stale stuff!:whistle2:
You'll remember the days when you used to be able to get a bag of broken biscuits for a 1d. Now it seems they just pack them up and sell them as normal stock!:swear2:

Our nearest Iceland is a 5 minute walk.
Will look for it, probably there tomorrow.
Nearest Aldi is 5 minute bus ride. Often there and often look at the bread isle, can't say we've seen it.
But will look properly next time.

Just to add to happy jacks thread for 'up norf'
Here's a canny little Aire we like that is usually not very busy but in a great location.

Looks like good value.
Is Alnwick castle worth a visit?
Not sure if cost this year but we have used Little Stryne  cs at Borrowash Derby 2 years running for £10 a night.
Excellent to break up your journey.
Lovely field between 2 rivers/streams and it has fresh water, toilets, cwd.

Probably true, our Southern Water supply tastes like poo and now cost 50% more than it did last year.
NorthEast water is hard.
We always get a great cuppa when we use Yorkshire water.

:LOL:Yep we are so hard up norf the water is hard. I've just spent £160 on a repair to our combi because of timescale destroying a rubber washer on hot water thermostat.:cautious:
Good share that derby site.
Our next trip is Newark the end of May...can't wait... classic lamps and stoves...the smell of burning paraffin and cooking is lovely.

Anywhere nice in the Newark area?
We used to turn left at Newark onto the A17 on our way to the Norfolk broards. Had 3 boating hols there but many years ago.
Pics of the Derby site.
