Getting Better
looking for a site with good access and a good view for when the snow starts coming....

I was thinking of C&CC at Keswick but its a bit far up from Cornwall....does anyone know of anywhere else ?

Just want to stock up and get snowed in for a little while and be all cosy in the van......:D

A shop and pub nearby would be a bonus....(y)

I’m not a member of any club and don’t want to join one...

Snow? When is this happening, and where.

Certainly not in Keswick by the look of it

It will eventually snow @Robert Clark ... even in East Sussex....:D2

Head for venosc in the alps, be some there I reckon.:)

It certainly did snow here last March - loads of it in fact, so you may be right.

I know, my sister and nephew live in copthorne and Bolney but I want a better view then Gatwick airport....

Do you fancy the Suffolk/Essex boarder, smiffy?

I'm on a CS with EHU, toilets and showers. Local pub, and shop 15 minute walk, Tesco a little further, view over open countryside.

Keswick is lovely but in the winter you always need to be ready to make a quick exit as it floods easily. Also, if you're not in a club it'll cost a lot more.
www.ukcampsite.co.uk is a good web site.

Your generally on a safe bet if you stay in Keswick on ‘Derwentwater ‘ C&CC site which is at top of track for ‘Keswick’ C&CC site also less walking into town yet still an easy stroll to lake and has lovely views of snow capped mountains.
Easy for buses, pubs and shopping.

Can you tell I’m a fan.

Castleton, go there in Feb...every year we nearly get stranded over the tops nr the Roaches. I would suggest you venture to a village called Flash '1514 feet above sea level and in winter it is frequently snow-bound'. Watch the wind though....in all senses.

Castleton cmc site near Buxton in the peak district

Another vote for Castleton, a short walk into the village and a hearty welcome at The George pub for excellent food. There is also a very pleasant footpath walk to the village of Hope.

Are we looking at the same site...?

No.
Buxton and Casleton are two different towns.
BUT........just noticed that Castleton is 'Members Only' so that might rule that out.
Of course you could cough up and join but I have feeling that might go against the grain.

Richard.

Braemar, a bit further but almost certain to have snow in the next few weeks. Easy stroll to the town which is nice though a bit touristy. Trouble is I think that might be members only too.
Just checked forecast, could be snow from 15th onwards. Just up the road is the Spittal of Glenshee which always gets some if anywhere does.

I was a member but didn’t really use it so let it lapse and joining again makes it an expensive few nights...

It looked ideal too, although it might have been a bit of a trek to the village if there was considerable snow on the path..(wheelchair)

Lakeside caravan / campsite Hope , Peak District. Good pubs walks
We found the CMC site well run but the site seemed cramped,
Also another site in Hope but can’t remember the name .
