Hymer b544
2002 Hymer B544 Power supply, new motorhome to us so could be missing something simple, on EHU we have power to plug sockets, the led on the control panel is not lit, what should we see on the panel, and the fridge is not working any idea folks. Appreciate any help.

The LED on the control panel is fed from the mains charger in the EBL (Elektroblock). I think on that age Hymer the 12v electrical feeds for the fridge are taken from the EBL but the mains feed I would expect to be direct.
You may have two different faults the EBL charger is possibly faulty, check the battery voltage, when on mains it should rise to 14.4v then after 8 hours drop to 13.8v float charge. The fridge could be the mains element blow that's quite common.

Do you have any 12Vs working?

Thanks for the reply, yes when we switch to 12V the interior lights all work, and ignition system for cooker and fridge all spark, sorry not sure what else may come off the 12V system. Still learning.

Does it have an Electroblock (EBL)? If so what model number is it? It's a blue box that distributes the 12V electrics and has fuses. I'm not sure if 2002 Hymers have an EBL. I presume the fridge is a 3-way type (mains, gas, 12V). Is it automatic or manual switching?
not sure what else may come off the 12V system.
The water pump, for the taps, shower and toilet flush. The room heater and water heater controls (the main heating power is gas). The electric step. The water heater frost protection valve.

On EHU the mains charger should be charging the leisure battery, and also the starter battery. The fridge should work from the mains. If it's auto switching (AES) then it will switch automatically, if not then it should work when manually switched. There's no sound or obvious sign it's working for some time (apart from maybe a light on the switch)

I have seen a few posts where the LED / Bulb indicator simply fails in the control panel.
So it lights, pump and and 12v sockets work then it could be as simple as that.

Thanks for the help, embarrassed to say, but I didn't realise that when hooked up, I should also switch 12v on and hey presto the fridge power came on, sorry to have wasted your time, as stated a complete novice, but as I now know your all nice people, should I always switch on the 12v when EHU ?.

We've all done the same or something similar. Personally, I leave the 12v on unless the van is going to be left unused and off hookup for a long time (3 weeks or more). I do usually turn all the appliances off though that are not being used.

The idea is that most of the devices work off the 12V battery, even those where the main power supply is gas. So you can park on a field with no EHU, and still have heating, hot water, fridge, lights, toilet flush etc. The EHU simply charges the 12V battery when available.

Having said that, some room heaters/water heaters have 240V mains elements in addition to the standard gas heating, and most fridges have a 240V mains element available too. Of course any 240V mains sockets will only work when on EHU.

A 3-way fridge is a special case. These fridges have conrtrols powered by 12V. However the 12V 'heater' element is usually only powered from the alternator/starter battery when the engine is running, and runs on gas when parked with no EHU. If EHU is available, the fridge can run on 240V, and that's convenient because it saves you having to think about the gas bottle level.

There are no silly questions on here, please never be embarrassed to ask. We gave all been on /are on, the steep learning curve somewhere!
